Apple Valley Man Refurbs 155 Bikes, Donates $7,800 to Local Nonprofit

Rick Anderson sold 97 of the 155 bicycles he refurbished, and donated the proceeds to Apple Valley mentoring organization Kids 'n Kinship.

Editor's note: The following is a press release provided by Rick Anderson and Kids 'n Kinship.

The garage is empty again at the Anderson household. After spending the last year refurbishing 155 donated bicycles, Rick Anderson was again able to put on a successful sale at his Apple Valley home.  Dozens of people left the Memorial Day sale with a new shiny bike that was brought back to life and Rick is proud once again to donate $7,789 to Kids ‘n Kinship, a local mentoring program in Dakota County.

97 bikes were sold this year and the remaining 47 bikes were generously donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Association garage sale.  Rick has also kept 11 high end bikes which he will look to sell and again donate the profits back to the program in which he believes so strongly.

Rick would like to thank Jeff and the whole crew at for providing him with discounted parts, free advice, and help with some of the more difficult repairs. He would also like to thank the Apple Valley for donating lunch, and all the other volunteers who did everything from help with repairs to bake cookies for the day of the sale.

is a private non-profit organization that matches children who have a need for an additional supportive relationship with carefully screened adult volunteers.  Once a match has been made, volunteers spend 1-4 hours per week with the child.  Typical activities might include picnicking, attending sporting events, sharing interests or going to the movies.  Volunteers make a one-year commitment to the program.  These relationships often grow into  life-long friendships. We serve children in the communities of Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, Farmington, Lakeville and Rosemount. See more at: www.kidsnkinship.org/
