Apple Valley's Kelsey Harms Named Athena Award Winner

Harms has played volleyball and pole vaulted for the Eagles.

Apple Valley High School senior Kelsey Harms has been named the school's 2012 Athena Award winner. The Athena Award recognizes an outstanding senior female athlete at a high school. Harms will be recognized at the St. Paul Area Athena Awards banquet April 18 at the Prom Center in Oakdale. Harms is the daughter of Brent and Catherine Harms, and a two-sport athlete—in volleyball and track and field—at Apple Valley. She was a four-time letter winner, three-year varsity starter and earned all-conference honorable mentions in 2010 and 2011. She was the teams' defensive MVP and was selected to the Academic All-State team.  In track and field, Harms competes in the pole vault, and was named all-conference and academic all-conference in the sport …

Apple Valley's Maren Loe Advances to State Triple A Award Round

The high school senior was named the female winner at the 3AA regional level.

Apple Valley High School senior Maren Loe has been selected as the region 3AA female Triple A award winner for 2012, and will advance to the state round with Arthur Harris of Bloomington Jefferson High School for a chance at a college scholarship, according to a news release. The state award is sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League to recognize students who excel in academics, fine arts and athletics. Loe, who maintains a 4.0 grade-point average and is a National Merit finalist, also is a member of the school's wind ensemble, jazz and marching bands, and was named to the all-state jazz band. She is a member of the Apple Valley High School volleyball program, in which she earned four varsity letters and was a team captain. She…

Apple Valley Girls Volleyball Head Coach Resigns

Gordy Hagert still will remain part of the Eagles girls volleyball program.

Apple Valley High School's girls volleyball Head Coach Gordy Hagert has resigned from his position after two years, according to a news release from the school. He plans to remain part of the girls volleyball program, the release says, but other commitments prevent him from remaining the team's head coach. Hagert's teams had a 35-21 record in his two years as head coach; before that, he was an assistant coach with the team for six years. He's also a media specialist in District 196. Previously, Hagert was a teacher, coach and the athletic director at Buffalo Lake-Hector High School. Apple Valley High School is accepting applications for a new girls volleyball head coach. Apple Valley High School Athletes Sign to Play College Sports

Three wrestlers and one volleyball player committed to Division I and II schools on Wednesday's early National Signing Day.

Three Apple Valley High School wrestlers and one member of the school's volleyball team signed letters of intent on Wednesday to play college sports next fall: More athletes will have an opportunity to commit to a college sports team on another signing day this school year, usually in February. Apple Valley, Eastview Volleyball Ousted From Section Tournament

Both teams lost 3-0 in Friday night section matches.

The Apple Valley and Eastview volleyball teams suffered season-ending losses Friday night, each in their second match of the section 3AAA tournament. No. 6 seed Apple Valley dropped three games to No. 3 seed Lakeville North, 25-18, 25-19 and 25-15. No. 5 seed Eastview lost in three games to No. 4 seed Bloomington Jefferson, 26-24, 25-17 and 25-15. Both teams won their first-round section matches, Apple Valley against Holy Angels and Eastview against Park.

Apple Valley Volleyball Downs Holy Angels in Section Match

The Eagles bested Academy of Holy Angels by a good margin in each of in three games on Wednesday.

Apple Valley High School's volleyball team downed Academy of Holy Angels in three games on Wednesday at home in its first section match. The No. 6 seed Eagles took the first game 25-14, and the second and third games 25-9 and 25-8, respectively, against the No. 11 seed. Apple Valley will face No. 3 seed Lakeville North in the next round of the section 3AAA tournament at 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeville North. Sports Roundup: Eastview, Apple Valley Soccer Teams Cap Regular Seasons

The Eastview boys soccer team claimed the South Suburban Conference title, and heads into postseason ranked No. 1 in Class AA.

Soccer squads from Eastview and Apple Valley closed out their respective regular seasons on Thursday night, with boys and girls teams from both schools now turning their attention to the post-season. The Lightning boys carry Class AA's No. 1 ranking into the Section 3AA tournament. Eastview Boys Soccer Its South Suburban Conference title already in hand, the Eastview boys soccer team took a victory lap with a 1-0 win over Prior Lake on Thursday. Mathew Gweh recorded his team-high 21st goal of the season—the most in the state—in the victory, while Sam Ruelas made 13 saves to claim his fourth shutout of the year. Story, Photos: Apple Valley Volleyball Loses Thriller To Eagan

The Eagles pushed the conference-leading Wildcats to five games before losing their sixth straight match.

Gordy Hagert was all smiles Tuesday night after the Apple Valley volleyball team lost in five sets to conference-leading Eagan. Sure, the Eagles co-coach would have liked to have been on the winning side, but he was happy with the way the team played in the 25-16, 25-27, 33-31, 21-25, 7-15 loss. It was the sixth-straight setback for Apple Valley. "This is the first time in about three weeks where we've had everybody together," he said. It showed.
