The Apple Valley man convicted of setting fire to an Apple Valley home while six people were inside received his sentence on Wednesday. Aaron Michael Ferrarese, 21, was sentenced to a year in jail—with credit for 209 days already served—15 years probation and 200 hours of community service over five years, court records show. Dakota County District Court Judge Tim Wermager also ordered that Ferrarese enter the Minnesota Teen Challenge program, which helps teens and adults with drug and alcohol addictions. According to an article in the Pioneer Press, Ferrarese said in court that he was addicted to alcohol and marijuana in August when he set the house on fire. The Apple Valley man who in August allegedly set fire to an Apple Valley home while six people were inside pleaded guilty during a hearing on Wednesday to first-degree arson. Aaron Michael Ferrarese, 21, originally was charged with felony first-degree arson and second-degree arson in connection with an Aug. 26 incident in which he allegedly set fire to an Apple Valley home in the 14000 block of Fridley Way. Court records show a not-guilty plea on the second-degree arson charge. The six people inside the house at the time, including former Minnesota Vikings player Dave Osborn, made it out of the house safely. A jury trial of Aaron Michael Ferrarese, 21, is scheduled to begin March 12 unless attorneys agree on an appropriate sentence.

Two men, including one from Apple Valley, have been charged with arson, burglary and property damage after police say they allegedly lit hay bales on fire in a shed on the UMore Park property in Rosemount, and the shed burned down after firefighters couldn't put out the blaze. Matthew Thomas Bernsten, 21, of Apple Valley, and Joseph Michael Sanem, 22, of Rosemount, each are charged with second-degree arson, second-degree burglary and first-degree criminal damage to property, all felonies. The Apple Valley woman who in December 2010 doused her home and husband in gasoline and set the house on fire while he was inside was sentenced to five years in prison on Tuesday in Dakota County Court. The Star Tribune provides more details on the scene inside the court room at Tuesday's sentencing. Rhonda Lee Arkley, 50, in November was convicted of first-degree arson, second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and fleeing a peace officer in the case, in which she also attempted to stab herself with a screwdriver and fled police in her car, according to the criminal complaint. The maximum penalty for the charges combined was 30 years in prison and a $39,000 fine. Arkley originally pleaded not guilty to all three charges in May. As …

The woman, Yin Hsin Chu, was convicted in August on the prostitution charge, a misdemeanor.
