Just two months after shutting down alcohol sales at the restaurant, council members reissued the restaurant's beer and wine licenses.
It all came down to a question of trust. Just two months after shutting down on all liquor sales at Spoon Fusion Cuisine, Apple Valley City Councilors voted 3-2 to allow the troubled business to sell beer and wine—but not hard liquor—on Thursday night. Some councilors, like Tom Goodwin, were willing to give the restaurant another shot. Others, including Clint Hooppaw, said two months wasn't enough time for the restaurant to earn back the city's trust. "We've had too much of a history of short term fixes and short term corrections and promises made, only to have to go back and have another problem pop up," said Hooppaw, referencing the restaurant's rocky relationship with city officials. Restaurant owners Van Ngo and Kav Theng took over the…

The restaurant, which was the source of numerous police incidents and fire code violations following its opening in 2011, is back on the Apple Valley City Council agenda.

Despite the repeated policing issues and numerous fire code infractions, the embattled business is back on the council agenda. The Apple Valley council voted last month to set a public hearing on March 28 to consider approval of no less than …

The two groups, represented by SEIU Local 26, will decide whether to give their bargaining committees the power to call a strike, if necessary, in the lagging contract talks.
Hundreds of Twin Cities-area union janitors and security officers are slated Saturday morning to vote on whether to give their bargaining committees the right to call strikes in the stalled labor negotiations. Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 26 said it has been bargaining for months for new contracts for its more than 6,000 members who are janitors and security officers, and that the groups have been working since Dec. 31 without new contracts. The union said both of the labor bargaining committees have recommended a "yes" vote for a strike authorizstion. The union workers, who will take their strike authorization vote at 11 a.m. at the Minneapolis Convention Center, are "facing the threat of reduced hours and …
