Rosemount Accepting Applications for City Commissions

Positions are open on Planning, Parks and Recreation and Utility commissions.

  The City of Rosemount is seeking residents to serve as members of its advisory commissions.  There are two openings on the Planning Commission, two on the Parks and Recreation Commission and one on the Utility Commission.  The City Council will interview candidates and make appointments.  All Commission terms begin April 1.  Commissioners receive a $35 stipend for each regular meeting they attend. Regular meeting dates of the month are: The Planning Commission is composed of five members.  Among other things, members prepare or amend the city's comprehensive plan and review all development proposals. The commission also reviews the five-year capital improvement program for compliance with the adopted plans and submit its recommendations …

Bad Smell, But No Explosion Risk From Rosemount Chemical Leak

A city press release says the chemical that leaked from a value Wednesday morning poses no safety risk.

Here is the news release issued on the City of Rosemount’s website: A chemical odor but not a safety risk resulted this morning from an incident at a private gas-handling facility near Highway 3 and 160th Street West in Rosemount. Rosemount Fire crews responded at 7 a.m. to a report of a valve break at the facility. The valve controlled the chemical used as an odor agent. No natural gas leaked at the facility, and there was no risk of fire or explosion. The smell may spread from the immediate area, and community notification phone calls …

I live in Apple Valley and awoke to what smelled like a giant skunk had sprayed outside my window--I felt sick and had to open window for fresh air and hope none of the odor came back at us! Transit Station Construction Begins in Rosemount

The new park and ride will replace the temporary transit stop near the Rosemount Community Center.

Construction began [this month] for a park and ride location in downtown Rosemount. When open, it will replace the temporary transit stop outside the Rosemount Community Center. The Rosemount Transit Station will be across from City Hall on 145th Street between Burnley Avenue and the railroad tracks. The 55,000-square-foot site will have parking for 102 vehicles and a shelter with indoor and outdoor seating. A citywide clean-up day will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012 from 8 a.m. until 12 noon at the Rosemount Public Works Facility at 14455 Brazil Ave., just north of the Rosemount City Hall. Residents are welcome to participate in the event by dropping off unwanted items that are not normally collected by their residential solid waste haulers. Rosemount will be working with J.R.’s Advanced Recyclers for collection and disposal of electronic equipment and appliances. Anyone dropping off these items will pay J.R.’s directly. Discussion about a proposed nine-lot commercial development near the intersection of County Road 42 and Highway 3 has been tabled by the Rosemount Planning Commission. The 26.5-acre development—which would include a Super America gas station/convenience store and a Country Inn and Suites hotel—would sit at the northeast corner of the intersection. The lots would range in size from just under an acre to 14.9 acres. Bogart’s Apple Place Bowl donated $5,028 to Rosemount’s Beyond the Yellow Ribbon committee during the Sept. 18 Rosemount City Council meeting. The donation was a portion of the proceeds from a golf tournament that Bogart’s sponsored this past summer. Cities Schedule Fall Cleanup Days

Apple Valley’s event is planned for Sept. 22 at the Quarry Point Athletic Complex. Rosemount will have its cleanup day on Oct. 6 at the city’s public works facility.
