Dakota County tends to cost less than Scott County in all for categories for which the data is available: CT scans, mammograms, colonoscopies and MRIs. These big regional differences have been in the news lately: As the Washington Post wrote on Wednesday, "One hospital charges $8,000 - another $38,000." Using the same data as the Post, The New York Times listed out the prices of a series of procedures in hospitals across the country. Dakota County officials say the flashing yellow turn signals are safer and allow for greater traffic flow. What's your take?
A growing number of flashing yellow arrow signals are appearing at Dakota County intersections, as city and county engineers turn to them to help relieve congestion and increase traffic flow at heavily-trafficked intersections. But what is the proper etiquette for a flashing yellow arrow? The yellow arrows mean drivers are permitted to make left hand turns at intersections, but must yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians before doing so, according to Dakota County officials. The flashing yellow arrow are typically installed where a more restrictive three-arrow signal would have otherwise been placed. Drivers at a flashing yellow arrow intersection have more opportunities to make a left turn under the new signal than with a traditional …

In response to three recent infant deaths at licensed daycare providers, Dakota County has launched an awareness campaign that includes postcards, a video and free training lessons.
Last August, 3-month-old Dane Ableidinger was laid down for a nap on a blanket in the basement of "Bev's Day Care" home facility in Eagan. Hours later, the infant's body was found facedown and bleeding on the blanket—dead of apparent asphixiation. Ableidinger was one of three infants to die in Dakota County child care homes in just more than a year. All three infants were in unsafe sleeping positions. All of the homes were licensed by the county. The deaths have led to an awareness campaign by the county that started with postcards mailed earlier this month to 793 licensed homes featuring a picture of a coffin beneath the words, "WOULD YOU WANT TO LIVE WITH THIS?" "Do the right thing," Kelly Harder, Dakota County's director of community …
