Since that edition, “Ogi” has been renamed, “Thor,” and will begin training in March. Behind the Bars… The population in the jail averaged 233 per day last week. From this issue: Even with the freezing temperatures, driving on the ice can be dangerous. This fact was highlighted again this weekend when a family of five traveling on Spring Lake broke through the ice. The family, with children ages three, two, and eight months, were visiting friends at a bonfire on the lake. Getting into their car, the dad decided to take a tour on the lake when the car went through thin ice in approximately ten feet of water about 50 feet from the shore. Dakota County Officials: Alcohol- and Drug-Related Accidents Typically Increase in December

December is designated National Impaired Driving Prevention Month, and Dakota County officials are warning drivers about the dangerous consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Now that the holiday season is here Americans across the country will soon be involved in holiday activities and travel. For some however, the season won’t be free of disaster. That’s why Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom and Dakota County Sheriff Dave Bellows are joining highway safety organizations and law enforcement partners across the nation to remind people during December and throughout the year that Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving and that drinking and driving don’t mix. Police: Shots Fired Following Dispute Between Duck Hunters

Dakota County deputies arrested one man following the alleged shooting incident, which occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. No one was injured.

Editor's Note: The following is a press release from the Dakota County Sheriff's Office. At approximately 2:37 p.m. today, Dakota County Sheriffs Deputies were summoned to Spring Lake Park on a report of shots fired at a duck hunter. The caller indicated that a hunter was confronted angrily by another hunting party as he was placing his decoys in the water. Words were exchanged and eventually the argument grew heated, culminating with one party shooting a shotgun at the party in the water placing the decoys. The victim and a witness report pellets striking the side of the victim’s boat. No one was struck by the pellets.
