Apple Valley-Rosemount teams win all three of their conference football games Friday night.
Apple Valley moved into a three-way tie at the top of the South Suburban Conference standings Friday night with a win and Lakeville North’s upset loss to Prior Lake. The Eagles, with their 35-6 victory over Bloomington Kennedy, improved their record to 4-1 overall and in the conference. Lakeville North and Prior Lake also are 4-1 in the conference. Friday night was a positive night for the three Apple Valley-Rosemount high school football teams, as they all won conference games. Money Magazine placed Eagan and Lakeville among the best small U.S. cities in which to live this year, a distinction bestowed upon Apple Valley in 2010.

They're two of five Minnesota cities making the top-100 list, joining Eden Prairie, which is third; Woodbury, 11th; and Maple Grove, 22nd. Last year a different crop of five were selected: Chanhassen, Arden Hills, Lino Lakes, Savage and Shoreview. Go back another year to 2010, and Apple Valley was 20th on the list. Girls and dads from across the south metro attended the Little Sweetheart Ballerina Princess Ball on Feb. 10, where they enjoyed an evening of ballerina-themed activities and fun. The ball is an annual Valentine's Day event hosted by the South of the River Recreators. The host city rotates annually, and this year the event was held at the Eagan Community Center. Approximately 300 guests attended. The event gives dads and daughters a special opportunity to bond through activities such as decorating cookies and making princess crowns, said Kerry Phillips, recreation supervisor for the Eagan Parks and Recreation Department. The Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan school board will be meeting tonight at Dakota Ridge School in Apple Valley at 5:30 p.m. for a special workshop regarding Systems for Interventions as well as holding its regular scheduled meeting at 6:00 p.m. During the regular meeting, the school board will recognize the Apple Valley High School recipient of the 2011 Harold B. Allen Award from MinneTESOL. Rosemount High School Assistant Principal Kim Budde will also present the school's marching band to the school board. Themarching band is getting recognized by the board for consecutively winning the Minnesota State High School Band Championship. Huusko was selected Thursday night from among seven applicants to fill Kevin Sampers' seat.
Eagan resident Gary Huusko has been selected to fill the seat of Kevin Sampers on the District 196 School Board. Huusko beat out a field of six other applicants who interviewed with the School Board last Thursday evening. Huusko has been a practicing attorney since 1983 and is currently an associate at Severson, Sheldon, Dougherty & Molenda in Apple Valley. Huusko is listed as practicing in the areas of intellectual property, business and commercial law, and employment law. Huusko’s bio shows a deep involvement with District 196 in the last decade. He has served on the district’s budget advisory council since 2004 and acted as that council’s Co-Chair in 2008-2009. Huusko has also served on the Board of Directors for The District 196 …

Zachary Scott Lathrop had a blood-alcohol content more than three times the legal limit when Rosemount police stopped him this week, according to court records.
An Eagan man has been charged with felony DWI after police stopped him in Rosemount last week and determined his blood-alcohol content to be three times the legal limit. Zachary Scott Lathrop, 26, is charged with two counts of first-degree driving while impaired, each of which carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison and a $14,000 fine. According to the criminal complaint, a Rosemount police officer stopped Lathrop about 1:45 a.m. Sunday as he was driving north on Hwy. 3 near Connemara Trail. The officer said Lathrop was weaving over the center line and back into his lane; after watching Lathrop weave back and forth “multiple times,” he stopped Lathrop’s car, the complaint says. This new Italian eatery gets fresh.
Andiamo Italian Ristorante has been in Eagan for less than a year, and they've already held a charity buffet, established a catering business and become a lunch-time destination for area workers. Ramon Ruiz, chef and owner, prides himself on the quality cooking and said he checks every meal that leaves the kitchen personally. Chicken Andiamo is Ruiz's signature creation. In this week's Bites Nearby, Ruiz showed us everything that goes into the colors and flavors of this popular dish.
