VIDEO: State Tournament a "Huge Step" for Eastview Boys Hockey, Coach Says

Qualifying for the Class 2A boys hockey state tournament is a "huge step" for the Eastview High School hockey program, Head Coach Drey Bradley told reporters on Thursday night. Despite a tough, 6-3 loss to the top-ranked Hill-Murray Pioneers in the opening round of the tournament, Bradley was optimistic. The Lightning have a well-balanced crop of sophomores and juniors rising through the ranks—including sophomore goalie Zachary Driscoll, who gave a strong performance in the section playoffs. Eastview's State Hockey Hopes Dashed by Hill-Murray

The Pioneers defeated the Lightning 6-3 in the quarterfinal round of the Class 2A state hockey tournament at the Xcel Energy Center on Thursday.

In the end, fighting spirit wasn't enough for the Eastview High School boys hockey team as it took on top-ranked Hill-Murray in the opening round of the state tournament on Thursday night. The Pioneers beat out Eastview 6-3 and will advance to the semifinal round of the Class 2A state hockey tournament on March 8 at the Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul. "We had a couple mishaps in our defensive zone where they capitalized and took the wind out of our sails. It was tough," Eastview senior Ryan McNamara said following the game. "They’re definitely a top team, they deserve that number one spot." Everything You Need to Know for Eastview Hockey's Trip to State

The Lightning will play top-ranked Hill-Murray at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Xcel Energy Center.

Propelled by a  4-1 victory over Eagan High School, the Eastview High School boys hockey team is heading to state—the team's first appearance at the tournament since 2001. Eastview, 15-9-1 in the regular season, will have its work cut out for them as the team faces top-ranked Hill-Murray (22-2-1), which has qualified for the tournament seven of the last eight years. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 7 at the Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul. Hill-Murray may be a daunting first-round opponent for Eastview, but the Lightning have only allowed a single goal so far in post-season play. Eastview Defense Snaps Eagan's Winning Streak, Heads to State

Eagan and Eastview squared off in the section championship on Thursday night in St. Paul. Unable to get past the Lightning's defensive line, Eagan lost 4-1.

Eastview High School dashed the Eagan High School boys hockey team's hopes for another trip to the state tournament on Thursday night in a decisive, 4-1 victory at the Section 3AA championship game in St. Paul. Eastview's John Snodgrass and Cole Cooper scored in the first period to give the Lightning an early 2-0 lead. The Lightning expanded that lead, scoring additional goals in the second and third periods. With a little less than five minutes left in the third period, Wildcats forward Zach Glienke put one past Eastview goalie Zachary Driscoll, giving Eagan its only goal of the game. Eastview Alum Dies at the Age of 25

Tyrone Mitchell III died on Feb. 24, 2013.

Tyrone Mitchell III, of Apple Valley, passed away Feb. 24, 2013 at the age of 25. "I was Tyrone's guidance counselor at Eastview, and he was one who touched my heart. I know that we are not supposed to have 'favorite students' but I am not afraid to say that Tyrone is and will always be a favorite," wrote Anne Scholen in Mitchell's online guestbook. "His kind soul, gentle nature, and acceptance of all touched everyone around him, and we are all better for having known him. I'm so sorry for your loss." Mitchell is preceded in death by his step-father, Martin Ware Sr. and grandmother, Linda Jackson “Nana”. Eastview High School Boys Hockey Will Battle Eagan in Section Championship

The winner of Thursday's Section 3AA championship game will head to the boys hockey state tournament March 6-9.

Can Eastview pull off a repeat performance at the Section 3AA championship on Thursday at the State Fair Coliseum in St. Paul? Third-seeded Eastview, 17-9-1 on the season, will challenge the Eagan boys hockey team, 23-3-1, at 7 p.m. on Feb. 28.
