From 2005 to 2009 he was the head varsity baseball coach at Rosemount High School, where his team made a state tournament appearance in 2008. Eastview Baseball Takes State Title With 1-0 Win in 1 Hour, 20 Minutes

The Lightning beat Bemidji in the Class 3A state championship on Monday.

Eastview High School's baseball team made it the second state championship win of the spring for Lightning teams, besting Bemidji 1-0 at Target Field on Monday in its first state baseball appearance to take the Class 3A title. The game lasted less than one hour and 20 minutes, according to a MN Baseball Hub/Star Tribune recap. Eastview pitcher Evan DeCovich pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits and a walk, with five strikeouts. DeCovich also had two hits in the game, and scored the team's only run after doubling in the second inning. The Lightning had four hits total, with Cameron Hall and Quinn Trusty adding to the team total. More stats from the game are available here. Eastview's boys lacrosse team also won the state …

Eastview Baseball Set for State Championship Game

The AAA championship game against Bemidji High School is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at Target Field.

The Eastview boys baseball team will face Bemidji High School for the Class AAA state championship at 6 p.m. Monday at Target Field. The 22-4 Lightning bested Red Wing 3-1 in their quarterfinal game and Grand Rapids 5-3 in the semifinals. Last year, Eastview didn't make the state tournament, which Burnsville won in Class AAA. A Star Tribune article is predicting a 6-2 Bemidji win in the championship game, but should Eastview win, it would be the second Lightning state championship this spring, after the boys lacrosse team earlier this month earned the school its first boys state championship ever. Championship game tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students. More information about the state tournament is available here from the …

Undefeated Mark on the Line for Eastview Boys Basketball in Rematch Tests

Lakeville North and Apple Valley come looking to hand Eastview its first loss of the season in the next few days.

The undefeated and top-ranked Eastview boys’ basketball team will face another tough challenge when South Suburban Conference foe Lakeville North comes to town Friday night. A victory at home over the No. 3-ranked Panthers (18-1 on the season and 10-1 in the SSC) would provide the Lightning (19-0, 11-0) with a two-game cushion in the conference heading down the home stretch and give Eastview a season sweep over a formidable Lakeville North team. The Panthers’ only blemish on the season is a 54-48 home loss to Eastview in January. The Lightning had to deal with a boisterous crowd on the road during that battle and hope to return the favor at the Eastview High School gymnasium on Friday. Eastview forward Joey King attracted plenty of …

Tough 2nd Inning Dooms Eastview Baseball Against Burnsville

Eastview gave up six runs in the second, dropping the game 8-4 to No. 3 Burnsville in a South Suburban Conference baseball showdown Thursday.

Take away a disastrous second inning and Eastview baseball outplayed third-ranked Burnsville in Thursday's battle of South Suburban Conference heavyweights at Alimagnet Park. Eastview pitched itself into a quick, deep hole the team couldn’t get out of, losing 8-4. Junior starting pitcher Adam Moorse had a rare struggle with control in the second inning. Burnsville strung together its 6-0 start on a hit, two hit-batters, a wild pitch, two bases-loaded walks and a two-run single up the middle by Derek Johnson. “That was probably a lot of the ballgame right there,” said Eastview head coach Tom Strey. “Especially against a team like Burnsville. They’re a quality team. They’re going to throw quality pitchers at us; they’re not going to make …

Eastview Softball Hopes Increased Offense Leads To Conference Title

The Lightning will compete in a powerful South Suburban Conference, but they think they'll be in the title conversation come May.

2010 record: 15-9 Conference record: 7-5 Section 3AAA tournament: def. Rosemount 5-4, lost to Burnsville 2-0, lost to Lakeville South 6-2   The Eastview softball team has a mission this season: Score more runs. The Lightning finished the 2010 campaign 15-9 overall but were 3-6 in games when they scored two runs or fewer. That includes back-to-back losses in last year’s Section 3AAA tournament. But coach Mike Haugh said despite losing some of its power from a year ago, Eastview has a goal to increase its offensive numbers this spring. “It was a big time struggle; we couldn’t put enough runs on the board,” Haugh said. “When that happens you only have to give up 1-2 (runs) and you end up on the losing end. This year we figure we’re going to …

South Suburban Conference Baseball 2011 Preview

Eden Prairie, Chaska and Chanhassen are out. Prior Lake is in. But this year's baseball season looks to be just as competitive as in the former Lake Conference.

It’s going to be a new brand of baseball this year in the South Suburban Conference, but it likely will be just as competitive as the Lake Conference used to be. How do you keep track of it all? Keep it easy this way: Eden Prairie, Chaska and Chanhassen are out. Prior Lake is in to fill out a 10-team conference. By season’s end, several of the teams in the South Suburban could be ranked in the top 10. And most will get to face each other again, with everything on the line, in the Section 6AAA playoffs. Burnsville beat Eastview for the Section 3AAA title last year, then lost to conference rival Eden Prairie in the Class AAA state title game. Lakeville South's first-year coach Al Iversen summed up the competition in the conference with one …
