White Bear Lake scored with about three minutes left in regulation to defeat the Lightning, 1-0, in the Class 2A state quarterfinals Wednesday night at Hopkins High School. White Bear Lake was the tournament’s fourth seed, while Eastview was the fifth seed. The loss ends what could be described as a successful season for Eastview, which finished with a 13-4-1 record and the Section 3AA championship. The Eastview boys and girls soccer teams claimed Section 3AA championships Tuesday night at Park High School. Both teams will be making return trips to the state tournament.

The Lightning prevailed by 1-0 scores in both Section 3AA championship games on Tuesday night at Park (Cottage Grove) High School. In the girls title match, top-seeded Eastview (13-3-1 overall) and second-seeded Park played to a scoreless tie through two sudden-death overtime periods. The junior forward at Eastview High School has been selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s 2011 Boys High School All-America Team. He helped the Lightning earn a second-place finish in this year's Class AA state tournament.
Matthew Gweh, All-American Soccer Player. Gweh, a forward at Eastview High, has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s 2011 Boys High School All-America Team. Gweh is the only Minnesotan on the 77-member team, which was announced Thursday. According to Minnesota Soccer Hub, the Lightning junior led the state in goal scoring during the regular season, with 21, and was third in assists, with eight. Combining his regular-season and post-season production, Gweh finished with 28 goals. He scored a goal in 11 of his team’s final 12 games. Gweh helped lead Eastview to a second-place finish in the Class AA state tournament, where the Lightning lost to Eden Prairie, 3-1, in the championship game at the Metrodome. He …

It was a busy weekend at Apple Valley High School as the Eagles cross country program hosted an invitational meet on Saturday as the volleyball team put on a tournament on both Friday and Saturday. Apple Valley Cross Country The Apple Valley boys and girls cross-country teams finished fourth and sixth, respectively, at the Apple Valley Invitational. Alex Hangel led the Eagles boys with a 13th-place time of 17 minutes, 6 seconds; Alexa Nelson paced the girls squad with a 19th-place result of 15:39.
