Rosemount Rolls Out Prescription Drug Disposal Program

Residents will be able to safely and anonymously deposit unused over-the-counter or prescription medications and illicit substances at the Rosemount Police Department.

Looking for a safe and anonymous way to dispose of unused prescription medications and other over-the-counter drugs? The Rosemount Police Department will soon be collecting unused drugs and medications at a secure dropbox stationed inside the police department lobby.  Local residents will be able to drop off pills and other substances—no questions asked—during from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. The substances collected will be collected and transported to an incinerator for disposal. The drug dropoff is a safer alternative than flushing medications down a toilet, according to city and police officials, who say flushing medications into the sewer system can have an adverse effect on the environment. Werner Takes Helm of Rosemount Police Department as New Chief

Prior to becoming chief at Rosemount, Werner was at Burnsville PD for 13 years.

  Eric Werner, the new Rosemount Police Chief, believes education is critical to creating safe communities. “I love this profession,” Werner said. “I’m a cop at heart. I have a passion for education and believe higher education is important to the professional police officer.” Werner, 46, has been the police chief at Rosemount for three months now, and in those three months, he has made it a priority to engage with the community and meet community members at all levels, from residents to school administrators to business owners. “As a police administrator, one of the things I believe in is having solid relationships with the community,” he said. “We have to rely on the help of the community, and I think that can be accomplished whether it’…

The agenda for the meeting calls for three presentations—including the ceremonial swearing in of new Police Chief Eric Werner—and the council’s regular consent agenda. New Police Chief Selected to Lead Rosemount Force

Burnsville Police Capt. Eric Werner is the Rosemount City Council's top choice for the police chief position, which has been vacant since Gary Kalstabakken resigned in May.

Rosemount soon should have a new top cop. After final interviews on Monday, the Rosemount City Council chose Eric Werner—a captain with the Burnsville Police Department and a Rosemount resident—to take the position, according to an article from the Rosemount TownPages. Werner beat out two other finalists for the spot: Apple Valley Capt. Michael Marben, and Rosemount Police Lt. and Interim Chief Jewel Ericson. The decision comes after a lengthy application process, which included two community panels, multiple interviews and an open house with residents. 3 Finalists Named for Rosemount Police Chief

The public is invited to meet the candidates at an Aug. 1 open house; the city council will interview the finalists again on Aug. 6.

Editor's note: The following information was provided by the city of Rosemount. Three finalists have been named for the Chief of Police position with the city of Rosemount. Finalists, in alphabetical order, are: The public is invited to meet three finalists during an open house from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 1 at Rosemount City Hall in the city council chambers. This is a drop-in event; there will be no formal program. The Rosemount City Council will conduct formal interviews on Aug. 6. The finalists were selected following interviews by two panels of people from within the community and city staff, as well as the police chief of a neighboring community.
