Firefighters Respond to Blaze in Apple Valley Office Building

It took firefighters less than an hour Sunday evening to extinguish a blaze at the Cedar Valley office building at 7630 145th St. W.

  A fire broke out Sunday evening in an Apple Valley office building, damaging at least one of the offices. Apple Valley firefighters responded to the blaze just before 8:30 p.m. at the Cedar Valley office building at 7630 145th St. W. No one was inside the building when the fire broke out, and firefighters extinguished the flames within the hour, according to a firefighter on the scene. The fire burned a hole in the building's east wall. Wisps of smoke were still emerging from the structure at 9:15 p.m. According to a sign outside, the building houses the Oasis Alcoholics Anonymous group, International Language Inc., Koester Insurance Services, Weddings by Tess and 4Keeps Enterprises, a nonprofit organization that works with disadvantaged…

UPDATE: Cause Determined in Wednesday House Fire in Apple Valley

The cause of the fire on Hallmark Drive on Wednesday, July 11, was accidental, according to Apple Valley fire officials.

Fire Marshal Roy Kingsley said there were leaves under the home's deck that caught fire because of the materials weren't put out and disposed of correctly. It took 32 Apple Valley firefighters about 40 minutes to control the house fire in the 14700 block of Hallmark Drive. The home's occupants made it out safely and uninjured, Apple Valley Fire Chief Nealon Thompson said, but the fire consumed a "significant portion" of the home. A lightning strike to a gas meter Sunday night is believed to have significantly damaged one home and caused minor damage to another. Nobody was injured.

One home was significantly damaged, but nobody was injured, after two Apple Valley homes caught fire Sunday night due to a lightning strike. Apple Valley firefighters responded to a report of a house fire on Lower 131st Street Ct. at about 11:15 p.m., according to a WCCO story. Lightning apparently had struck a gas meter on one of the homes, and then a neighboring house caught on fire through the gas line, the story says, "significantly" damaging one home and causing minor damage to the other. Lightning Strike Causes Fire Scare at Apple Valley Apartment Building

More than 15 vehicles from Apple Valley Police and fire swarmed Majestic Cove Apartments on Thursday morning after one of the buildings was struck by lightning.

Lightning struck an Apple Valley apartment complex on Thursday morning, causing a fire scare when alarms went off and smoke was smelled inside the building. More than 15 rescue vehicles from Apple Valley's fire and police departments, as well as ALF Ambulance responded to the Majestic Cove apartment complex around 10 a.m. after the No. 2 of its five buildings was hit in the roof by lightning. An Apple Valley police officer told Patch that nobody was injured and the damage seemed limited to a shorted out alarm control box which was emitting the smoke smell. Rosemount Fire Assists with Shed Blaze

A fire in a shed on Mississippi Trail just east of Rosemount prompted a response from the Rosemount Fire Department.

The Rosemount Fire Departement responded to a shed fire just off Highway 55 on Mississippi Trail on Monday. A tanker truck was dispatched to assist Hastings fire personnel with the blaze. A unit from Miesville also responded. The call for assistance came shortly after 9 a.m. Firefighters were able to quickly contain the blaze to the shed and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures which included a nearby shed and a home on the property. According to firefighters on the scene, there were no injuries and a cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Fire Danger Remains 'Very High' in Dakota County

Forecasted gusty winds and low humidity over the weekend have officials on alert and urging residents to be cautious when grilling or enjoying campfires.

Gusty winds and extremely dry conditions have prompted the Minnesota DNR to elevate fire danger classifications for much of Minnesota. Apple Valley and Dakota County remain in a 'very high' rating. But about half the state has been placed in the 'extreme' category. No burning permits are being issued in Apple Valley and Dakota County at the current time and other burning restrictions have not yet been implemented. Wednesday's scheduled controlled burn near Flint Hills created a towering plume of smoke that could be seen for miles, however the Minnesota DNR was monitoring that fire closely and winds were calm. Dakota County, Southern Minnesota in 'Very High' Fire Danger Rating

A "very high" fire danger rating means fires start very easily and spread at a very fast rate.

A mixture of strong winds, dry land and warmer-than-average temperatures have central and southern Minnesota—including Apple Valley and the rest of Dakota County—in a "very high" fire danger rating, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the National Weather Service. A "very high" fire danger means:  Fires start very easily and spread at a very fast rate. Fires start easily from all causes, spread rapidly and intensify quickly. Spot fires are a constant danger. Fires burning in heavy fuels may quickly develop high-intensity characteristics, such as long-distance spotting and fire whirlwinds. Direct attack at the head of such fires is rarely possible after they have been burning more than a few minutes. Burning …
