While a couple activities were altered and heat apparently brought down some attendance, organizers still consider this year's event a success.

For one, the weather caused the cancelation of the petting zoo and pony rides scheduled for family fun night, chairperson Pat Schesso wrote in an email. The animals were supposed to be transported from Lino Lakes, but operators said it was too dangerous to do so in the extreme heat, Schesso wrote. Pin your favorite spot for attending an Independence Day celebration or fireworks show.
Many Apple Valley and Rosemount residents will head to fireworks and Fourth of July celebrations in town or nearby—Freedom Days, perhaps?—but there are plenty of options around the metro area. Where do you go to watch the explosive light display? Whether it's on the Fourth of July or another day, put a pin in the map above and share your favorite spot for fireworks viewing. To add a fireworks-viewing pin, click the Add button in the top right corner of the map. In the window that pops up, enter your name and hometown in the top box. Then enter the fireworks location address in the Location box, or use the map to locate the pin. You can resize the popup window to see more of the map. When you're done, click Submit.

Don't let the start of the work week hamper your Freedom Days celebrations; take the kids out to Lac Lavon Park on Monday night for the Kids Fishing Derby, where they'll get a chance to reel in a big catch.
