Rob Duchscher Elected to Chair District 196 School Board

For Duchscher, who has served on the School Board for 13 years, this will be his fourth year as the group's chair.

Rob Duchscher was elected chairperson of the District 196 School Board for 2013 at the board’s annual organization meeting Jan. 7. This will be Duchscher’s fourth year as chairperson during his 13 years on the board. He was first elected in 1999 and previously served as board chairperson in 2005, 2006 and 2007. The board also elected Jackie Magnuson to be vice chairperson, Gary Huusko clerk and Art Coulson treasurer for 2013, and approved assignments to four board committees and organizations on which the School Board is represented. District 196 Trades Classroom Time for Teacher Training, Individual Testing

On Monday night, the District 196 school board unanimously approved two measures that would give teachers more time to assess and train, but would mean less classroom time for students.

For District 196 School Board Chairperson Jackie Magnuson, it's a matter of quality over quantity. Magnuson and her fellow school board members unanimously approved two measures that will shorten the school year by three days for the district's middle and high school students, and five days for elementary students, at their Monday meeting at Dakota Ridge School. Although students will spend less time in the classroom, Magnuson believes the adjustments will allow teachers to thoroughly analyze classroom data and test results and hone their teaching to better address student needs, she said. "We feel like what we give up isn't horrendous," Magnuson said following Monday's meeting. "Can we work smarter, can we give teachers more time to …

All Four Incumbents Win in District 196 School Board Race

Joel Albright, Rob Duchscher, Jackie Magnuson and Bob Schutte retained their seats on the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School District Board of Education.

The four incumbent candidates in the race for District 196's open school board seats have retained their seats for the next four years. Incumbents Joel Albright, Rob Duchscher, Jackie Magnuson and Bob Schutte received the four largest vote totals, according to unofficial election results reported by the school district. They ran along with three newcomers: Steven Butler, Fay Coggshall and Gary Krueger. The results, in order of number of votes obtained, with all precincts reporting: Magnuson (i): 2,583 Albright (i): 2,408 Schutte (i): 2,405 Duchscher (i): 2,402 Butler: 1,235 Krueger: 1,200 Coggshall: 992 Magnuson, who currently is the board's chairwoman, has served on the board for 22 years.
