'Significant' Damage Reported at Site of Jan. 1 Fire

Authorities say that a property on 134th Street West may not be a total loss, though the luxury home has lost at least half its value.

Like us on Facebook | Get our newsletter |Follow us on Twitter | Start a blog Investigators are poring over the charred remains of a luxury home in the 8100 block of 134th Street West, which was partially destroyed by a fire on New Year's Day.   Apple Valley Fire Chief Nealon Thompson said at this point the structure is not considered a total loss, but that the damages will be well into the six figures. "I would say it suffered a loss of half of its value, if not more," Thompson said. "We're talking about at least $500,000." Thompson said the fire was called in at 2:11 p.m. By the time firefighters arrived, the home's garage was fully engulfed, with flames rapidly moving toward the main body of the house. Crews Battle New Year's Day House Fire

A tall column of smoke rose over Chateau Estates in Apple Valley, where a fire broke out during the late afternoon on New Year's Day.

  A half-million dollar home went up in flames on New Year's Day. Apple Valley and Eagan crews labored past sundown clearing the scene of a fire in the 8000 block of 134th Street West, in the Chateau Estates neighborhood. At this point, details are few; authorities were unwilling to release the specifics as of Tuesday night.  No one was hurt, according to Twin Cities CBS affiliate WCCO. According to property tax records, the home in question is worth more than $500,000, and could pose a substantial loss.  Patch will provide details as they become available.
