Mitt Romney to Make Campaign Stop in Eagan on Wednesday

The presidential hopeful will visit with Tim Pawlenty during his event in Eagan on Wednesday.

Presidential politics is coming to Dakota County in the run-up to the Feb. 7 caucuses. Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney will be visiting with former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty just up the road from Apple Valley, stopping for a campaign event in Eagan on Wednesday. The event is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Freightmasters, a large Eagan-based trucking company. Romney, who is considered the favorite to run against President Barack Obama this year, is the second Republican candidate to visit Minnesota within a week; fellow Presidential hopeful Rick Santorum stopped in Luverne on Monday night. Our sister site, Eagan Patch, will have more tomorrow from his visit, and we'll be posting photos and other news from the event.

Republican Congressman John Kline, who represents Apple Valley and all of Minnesota's Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, on Tuesday night released a statement in response to the speech: "Tonight, the President had the opportunity to rally our country toward the shared goal of a brighter future. Instead, he turned to the politics of envy, which creates deeper divisions among Americans.  "As we begin a new session of Congress we have an opportunity to work together on behalf of the American people. I urge the President to join Congressional Republicans and Democrats in pursuing policies …

Thank Rosemount School Employees During American Education Week

American Education Week celebrates 90 years this year.

This week is American Education Week, where communities across the nation are encouraged to recognize school employees in secretarial, clerical, maintenance, principal and assistant principal roles. The Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan school district board passed resolutions in October to acknowledge the work of clerical employees, maintenance employees and principals and assistant principals. Even President Obama has made an official declaration. American Education Week was first designated in 1921, but stemmed from discussions two years earlier between the National Education Association and American Legion in reaction to the fact that 25 percent of World War I draftees couldn't read or write, according to the National Education Association…

Re: "What Was Your Reaction to the Announcement of Osama Bin Laden's Death?" My reaction was to the throngs who were celebrating like the war was over. It was reminiscent of the end of WW2. I had to wonder how many naive people would go to bed last night thinking that the US had just won this one and that tomorrow, the soldiers would be coming home. This war does not end. It will never end. It is…   more ›
