This summer, Dakota County's Interstate 35 Corridor will be riddled with detours and diversions as the state refurbishes one of the most heavily trafficked roads in Minnesota.

The county project involves creating shoulders specifically for buses and widening Cedar Avenue to accommodate a bus rapid transit system, a station-to-station line that would have buses running from Lakeville to a park-and-ride near the Mall of America and back every 15 minutes during the week. Buses will not stop at the Apple Valley Transit Stations at 155th Street West and Cedar starting Monday, so crews can do utility work near the stations. Buses will instead go to the old transit station, nearby on Gaslight Lane.

The traffic signal is scheduled to be removed at 155th/Whitney and Cedar, and that street west of Cedar is slated to close.

One lane will be closed on northbound Cedar Avenue through part of Apple Valley, and temporary closures of side streets begin Monday; part of Galaxie Avenue also will be closed Tuesday.
Apple Valley has "not seen the full intensity of construction" along Cedar Avenue, Apple Valley Director of Public Works Todd Blomstrom said at Thursday's city council meeting.
