At Which Intersection Did Apple Valley Police Hand Out 189 Speeding Tickets in 2011?

Apple Valley issues about nine speeding tickets per year for every 200 residents.

Apple Valley police wrote about nine speeding tickets for every 200 residents in 2011, according to a report on WCCO-TV. Rosemount police wrote closer to eight. That year, Apple Valley police wrote 2,251 tickets for excessive speed and Rosemount wrote 929. Apple Valley ranked 22nd in number of speeding tickets per capita out of the 85 municipalities included in the WCCO report. Rosemount ranked 26th. The top three locations in Apple Valley: The top intersection in Rosemount was 145 Street E and Audrey Avenue, though officials didn't give out specific figures. It is not to hard to catch speeders at 150th st W and Elm drive. It is down hill and goes from 45 to 40. Nobody ever slows down. Most people are not even aware the speed goes down. There is no reason for the speed to drop there. When the Apple Valley police are bored and need to pad the ticket book they go out there and see who they can catch.   more ›

Rosemount Residents Encouraged to Dial 911 in Non-Emergency Situations

A new countywide campaign seeks to change the idea that dialing 911 is only acceptable in emergency situations.

Late last week, the Rosemount Police and Fire Departments and the Dakota County Sheriff's Office announced they were joining in a countywide "911 for All" campaign that encourages local residents to contact public safety agencies in the communities in both emergency and non-emergency situations. As part of the campaign, public safety officials are asking residents to dial 911 not just in an emergency, but also to provide information or request non-emergency service. Rosemount Rolls Out Prescription Drug Disposal Program

Residents will be able to safely and anonymously deposit unused over-the-counter or prescription medications and illicit substances at the Rosemount Police Department.

Looking for a safe and anonymous way to dispose of unused prescription medications and other over-the-counter drugs? The Rosemount Police Department will soon be collecting unused drugs and medications at a secure dropbox stationed inside the police department lobby.  Local residents will be able to drop off pills and other substances—no questions asked—during from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. The substances collected will be collected and transported to an incinerator for disposal. The drug dropoff is a safer alternative than flushing medications down a toilet, according to city and police officials, who say flushing medications into the sewer system can have an adverse effect on the environment. Police: Rosemount Woman Stabs Boyfriend, Smashes Computer

Ashley Marie Leach did $1,200 of damage to a computer and her boyfriend's car, before stabbing the victim three times, police say.

After smashing his computer moniter and scratching his car, police say a 27-year-old Rosemount woman stabbed her boyfriend twice in the arm and once in the armpit. Ashley Marie Leach faces one felony count of first-degree criminal damage to property and one felony count of domestic assault for her alleged role in the incident. If convicted on the domestic assault charge, Leach could face a maximum of 90 days in jail and $1,000 in fines. ON March 16, Rosemount police received a call from Leach's boyfriend, who said he had been in an altercation with her at a residence on the 3200 block of 144th St. Police interviewed the man, who told officers that the couple had been arguing, and that Leach proceeded to smash a computer monitor worth $249…

Police: Man Steals Credit Card in Rosemount Burglary, Goes on $8,500 Shopping Spree

A 22-year-old Savage man was charged with using stolen credit cards to make more than $8,500 in purchases.

On the second day of June, surveillance footage showed two men buying $4,215 worth of electronics from the Shakopee Walmart using a credit card that turned out to be stolen in a Rosemount garage burglary. Three days later, the same credit cards were used to buy $2,470 worth of electronics from Walmart and $1,804 of gift cards from a Savage convenience store. Now, 22-year-old Savage man, Palagor Obang Jobi, is being charged with two felony counts of financial transaction fraud, the Shakopee Valley News is reporting. Dakota County detectives investigating a separate case of credit card theft, identified Jobi from the Shakopee surveillance video and found in his apartment products iPads and other merchandise with stolen cards. Citizens Police Academy Taking Applications in Rosemount, Apple Valley

Application deadline is March 25 — classes begin in April.

  The experience of watching a police drama on television can become somewhat of a reality for those who want to learn more about local police operations. Applications are now open for the 2013 Citizens Police Academies by the Rosemount and Apple Valley Police Departments. Each city offers its own program. According to the City of Rosemount website, the program aims to offer insight into modern-day policing in the local community, through classroom and hands-on training conducted by Rosemount police officers.
