Police say 30-year-old Cody Franzoni was seriously injured when his SUV crossed the center line and struck another vehicle driven by a Rosemount man. Franzoni had alcohol present in his system at the time of the crash.

A proposal to appropriate $15,000,000 for improvements to the Minnesota Zoo has the support of Rep. Sandra Masin (51A, DFL). Masin is listed as a co-author on HF 928, authored by District 56B Rep. Will Morgan (DFL). Under the bill's provisions, the money would be used to improve the infrastructure and exhibits at the zoo. In other political news from around the southeast metro: Rep. A mother and her 9-month-old baby daughter died on Feb. 8.
A Rosemount mother and her baby daughter died in a tragic accident Feb. 8. Kelly Christine Kane, 36, and her 9-month-old daughter Olivia Catherine, both died on Feb. 8, according to an obituary posted by Henry W. Anderson Mortuary Services. From the obituary: We lost our beloved daughter and granddaughter. We are truly lost. They brought so much joy and happiness not only to our world but to all that knew them. We are blessed to be their family. Dad and mom Bob & Cathy, brother and sister-in-law John & Lauren, nieces she adored Hailee & Simone & her love Rob Sipek. Twenty District 196 high school students had top finishes at the Section 3 debate tournament Jan. 4-5 and qualified to compete at the State Debate Tournament, which will be held Jan. 18-19 at the University of Minnesota. Police say Brenda Lynn Heinen kicked an officer in the leg when she was arrested for drunken driving on her 41st birthday.
A Rosemount woman has been charged with threatening and kicking a police officer after she was arrested for drunken driving on her birthday. Brenda Lynn Heinen, 41, is charged with fourth-degree assault of a peace officer, a felony with a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $6,000 fine. She is also charged with two gross misdemeanor counts of second-degree DWI, each of which has a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $3,000 fine. A driver in the area of County Road 42 and Highway 3 reported to police at about 10 p.m. Dec. 16 – Heinen’s 41st birthday – that there was a driver in the area who was “all over the road,” according to the criminal complaint.
