PHOTOS: Jones Leads Eagles to Class 4A State Championship

Apple Valley had no trouble defeating Park Center 74-57 on Saturday night at the Target Center.

A rematch between the Apple Valley High School boys high school team and Park Center—the only team to defeat the Eagles this season—ended in Apple Valley's favor on Saturday night. The Eagles (31-1) took down Park Center 74-57 at the Class 4A state tournament championship on Saturday night at the Target Center. It's the first championship title for the team in seven state tournament appearances—a feat that earned the Apple Valley seniors a standing ovation as they exited the floor, according to the Minnesota Boys Basketball Hub. Apple Valley junior led the game with a total of 28 points and 11 rebounds, while senior Dustin Fronk scored 18 points and junior Dennis Austin scored 15. Park Center's Quinton Hooker racked up 20 points.

UPDATED: Eagles Headed to State Championship on Saturday

The Apple Valley boys basketball team edged out Eden Prairie 62-55 on Thursday night.

The Apple Valley High School boys basketball team's 29th victory in a row was a sweet one; after defeating Eden Prairie 62-55, the team will advance to the state championship. Apple Valley standout Tyus Jones led the team with 23 points, while center Brock Bertram racked up 13 rebounds. Forward Dennis Austin nabbed 15 points against Eden Prairie during the game, which started at 6 p.m. on Thursday evening at the Target Center. Unlike Wednesday's game against Brainerd in the state tournament quarterfinals, the Eagles were quick to ignite against Eden Prairie, outscoring them 30-22 in the first half. Apple Valley Dispatches Warriors 81-67, Onto Next Round of State Tournament

The Apple Valley High School boys basketball team competed this morning in the quarterfinal round of the Class 4A state tournament.

The top-ranked Apple Valley High School boys basketball team dismantled Brainerd 81-67 on Wednesday morning in the quarterfinal round of the Class 4A state tournament. Brainerd led 36-32 at the end of the first half, but the Eagles came back strong late in the game, outscoring their opponents 49-31. Junior point guard Tyus Jones, the Pioneer Press' Player of the Year, scored 19 points, according to the Minnesota Basketball Hub. The Eagles were 28 of 53 from the field and made 4 of 13 free throw attempts. Apple Valley also racked up 30 rebounds, compared to only 18 for the Warriors. Everything You Need to Know for Eastview Hockey's Trip to State

The Lightning will play top-ranked Hill-Murray at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Xcel Energy Center.

Propelled by a  4-1 victory over Eagan High School, the Eastview High School boys hockey team is heading to state—the team's first appearance at the tournament since 2001. Eastview, 15-9-1 in the regular season, will have its work cut out for them as the team faces top-ranked Hill-Murray (22-2-1), which has qualified for the tournament seven of the last eight years. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 7 at the Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul. Hill-Murray may be a daunting first-round opponent for Eastview, but the Lightning have only allowed a single goal so far in post-season play. Eastview Defense Snaps Eagan's Winning Streak, Heads to State

Eagan and Eastview squared off in the section championship on Thursday night in St. Paul. Unable to get past the Lightning's defensive line, Eagan lost 4-1.

Eastview High School dashed the Eagan High School boys hockey team's hopes for another trip to the state tournament on Thursday night in a decisive, 4-1 victory at the Section 3AA championship game in St. Paul. Eastview's John Snodgrass and Cole Cooper scored in the first period to give the Lightning an early 2-0 lead. The Lightning expanded that lead, scoring additional goals in the second and third periods. With a little less than five minutes left in the third period, Wildcats forward Zach Glienke put one past Eastview goalie Zachary Driscoll, giving Eagan its only goal of the game. Eastview High School Boys Hockey Will Battle Eagan in Section Championship

The winner of Thursday's Section 3AA championship game will head to the boys hockey state tournament March 6-9.

Can Eastview pull off a repeat performance at the Section 3AA championship on Thursday at the State Fair Coliseum in St. Paul? Third-seeded Eastview, 17-9-1 on the season, will challenge the Eagan boys hockey team, 23-3-1, at 7 p.m. on Feb. 28. Twenty District 196 Students Qualify for State Debate Tournament

The State Debate Tournament takes place Friday and Saturday at the University of Minnesota.

Twenty District 196 high school students had top finishes at the Section 3 debate tournament Jan. 4-5 and qualified to compete at the State Debate Tournament, which will be held Jan. 18-19 at the University of Minnesota. District 196 students swept all six qualifying spots in Lincoln-Douglas debate. Miriam Kelberg of Apple Valley High School finished first in Lincoln-Douglas debate, followed by Ryan Lowder and Nurry Goren of Eagan High School, Kezia Jenkins of Apple Valley, and Anant Naik and Nikhil Venkatasubramanian of Eastview High School. District 196's Dakota United Hawks adapted hockey teams went into the state tournament this past weekend with perfect or near-perfect records—and as No. 1 seeds—and came away among the top finishers in the two divisions. The tournament took place at Bloomington Jefferson High School. The Dakota United team in the physically impaired division was state runner-up, losing Saturday's championship game 7-2 to Robbinsdale/Hopkins/Mound West, last year's champion. The PI team entered the tournament 11-1-2, and won its first two rounds of play, beating Maple Grove 7-5 in its quarterfinal and Annoka-Hennepin 8-4 in the semifinal. The Hawks cognitively impaired team came into the tournament 12-0, and finished third at state this weekend after a 10-4…
