STORM AFTERMATH: Motorists Seek a Quicker Afternoon Commute

Monday morning’s rush hour was a commuter’s headache, as traffic crawled on slick highways.

Most Twin Cities freeways were in fair condition at midday Monday, a couple hours after one of the most nerve-racking morning rush hours in recent memory. Commuters across the metro still were stuck in traffic on snow-covered and icy roads heading after the traditional 9 a.m. end of the rush hour. The Star Tribune says that traffic on Interstate 694 in the north metro was crawling as late as 11 a.m. Shortly after 12:30 p.m. Monday, the Minnesota Department of Transportation was reporting that most major highways in the Twin Cities—including I-35E, I-35W, I-94, I-494 and highways 3, 52, 55, 61, 62 and 169—were in fair driving condition. As the saying goes in Minnesota, “If you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes and it will change.” As one of the meteorologists at FOX 9, it’s Keith Marler’s job to share those weather changes, forecasts and other weather related items in the Twin Cities area. Each weekday morning 4:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. on FOX 9, he provides the daily forecast for television viewers as the morning meteorologist. A Maple Grove resident, Marler has been named “American’s Favorite Weather Forecaster by Weatherist.com and “Twin Cities Best TV Weatherperson” by City Pages. New Record High Temperature for Rosemount

A temperature of 52 degrees on Jan. 10, 2012 broke the former record high temperature set in 1990 for the Twin Cities area. Colder temperatures forecast for remainder of the week.

If you were tempted to go outside in your shorts on Tuesday, you weren’t alone. Unseasonable warm temperatures throughout the 2011-2012 winter season resulted in a record shattering 52 degrees Jan. 10, according to WCCO TV.  The former high temperature for Jan. 10 was 49 degrees, recorded in 1990. The “heat wave” in the Twin Cities metro area isn’t forecast to last too long. The National Weather Service says there is a 30 percent chance of snow on Wednesday with temperatures forecast to dipping to 32 degrees and falling to a low of around  12 degrees Wednesday night.

Rosemount, Twin Cities in for a Heat Wave

This weekend, Mother Nature is expected to turn up the heat, bringing temperatures of 90 and beyond to Rosemount.

Rosemount is going to be burning hot this weekend: The National Weather Service warns that Minnesota and Wisconsin are in for a sustained heat wave. The forecast for Saturday and Sunday calls for temperatures well into the 90s—a trend that will likely continue well into the first part of the week. To make matters worse, this weekend will also be humid and muggy. The moist conditions will drive up the Heat Index, which the NWS describes the heat index as “an accurate measure of how hot it really feels. For instance, 90 degrees at 70 percent humidity will measure 105 on the Heat Index. The Heat Index increases steeply with each tick of the mercury: Though only six degrees higher, 96 degrees at 70 percent humidity charts a whopping 126 …
