Eastview High School's baseball team made it the second state championship win of the spring for Lightning teams, besting Bemidji 1-0 at Target Field on Monday in its first state baseball appearance to take the Class 3A title. The game lasted less than one hour and 20 minutes, according to a MN Baseball Hub/Star Tribune recap. Eastview pitcher Evan DeCovich pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits and a walk, with five strikeouts. DeCovich also had two hits in the game, and scored the team's only run after doubling in the second inning. Eastview Baseball Set for State Championship Game

The AAA championship game against Bemidji High School is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at Target Field.

The Eastview boys baseball team will face Bemidji High School for the Class AAA state championship at 6 p.m. Monday at Target Field. The 22-4 Lightning bested Red Wing 3-1 in their quarterfinal game and Grand Rapids 5-3 in the semifinals. Last year, Eastview didn't make the state tournament, which Burnsville won in Class AAA. A Star Tribune article is predicting a 6-2 Bemidji win in the championship game, but should Eastview win, it would be the second Lightning state championship this spring, after the boys lacrosse team earlier this month earned the school its first boys state championship ever. Championship game tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students. More information about the state tournament is available here from the …

Eastview Baseball Blanked In Section Final Against Burnsville

Burnsville one-hit the Lightning in Eastview's 10-0 loss on Tuesday.

The Eastview High School baseball team took second to Burnsville in the South Suburban Conference baseball standings this season, and now is the runner-up to the Blaze in the Section 3AAA tournament after a 10-0 loss in the championship round on Tuesday night. "It's hard to finish second to them again," Lightning coach Tom Strey said. "Burnsville is having an outstanding season and the credit goes to them." Alec DesLaurier-Knop was the only Eastview player to reach base, after claiming a single with two outs in the first inning as Burnsville pitcher Brian Vanderwoude recorded the next 13 outs in order to earn the shutout. Lightning starting pitcher Ty McDevitt took the loss after being chased from the mound in the midst of the Blaze's five…

Photos: Eastview Baseball Drops 1st Game Of Section Semifinals, 5-3

Eastview's loss to St. Thomas Academy dropped the team to the one-loss bracket; they'll play Eagan in an elimination game at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The Eastview baseball team enters the weekend teetering on the brink of postseason elimination after losing 5-3 to St. Thomas Academy in the first game of the Section 3AAA Final Four playoffs on Friday at Alimagnet Park. St. Thomas led 3-0 into the fifth inning before the Lightning knotted the game by scoring three runs without garnering a single hit, as Scott Nelson, Taylor Branstad and Alec DesLaurier-Knop all crossed home plate on a combination of two walks, two Cadets errors and a fielder's choice. The deadlock didn't last for long, however, as St. Thomas's Ryan McManus hit a leadoff homer in the top of the sixth inning to put the Cadets ahead for good. St. Thomas added one more run in the top of the seventh inning before Eastview went…

Tough 2nd Inning Dooms Eastview Baseball Against Burnsville

Eastview gave up six runs in the second, dropping the game 8-4 to No. 3 Burnsville in a South Suburban Conference baseball showdown Thursday.

Take away a disastrous second inning and Eastview baseball outplayed third-ranked Burnsville in Thursday's battle of South Suburban Conference heavyweights at Alimagnet Park. Eastview pitched itself into a quick, deep hole the team couldn’t get out of, losing 8-4. Junior starting pitcher Adam Moorse had a rare struggle with control in the second inning. Burnsville strung together its 6-0 start on a hit, two hit-batters, a wild pitch, two bases-loaded walks and a two-run single up the middle by Derek Johnson. “That was probably a lot of the ballgame right there,” said Eastview head coach Tom Strey. “Especially against a team like Burnsville. They’re a quality team. They’re going to throw quality pitchers at us; they’re not going to make …
