Don Wyatt

About Don

Don is a senior regional editor for Patch.com in the Midwest. He joined Patch in August 2010 launching sites in Minnesota, Michigan and Iowa. He later added responsibility for sites in Ohio and western Pennsylvania. He assumed his current responsibilities in March 2011. Before joining Patch, he was executive editor of the Springfield (MO) News-Leader Media Group, which publishes daily and weekly newspapers, Web sites, magazines and a mobile site. He has also worked at media companies in California, (Orange County Register), Massachusetts (Boston Globe), Michigan (Detroit News, Lansing State Journal), Minnesota (St. Paul Pioneer Press, Duluth News Tribune), and Washington, D.C. (USA Today).

He is a member of the Online News Association, American Society of News Editors and the Associated Press Managing Editors industry groups. He belongs to the Asian American Journalists Association and several other minority journalism organizations, including the Native American Journalists Association. He is an at-large member of the Society of Professional Journalists and was a member of the governing boards of the Minnesota chapters of SPJ and AAJA.

He co-produced two National Writer’s Workshops in the Twin Cities for the Poynter Institute and is a frequent mentor and coach for student journalists.

He has a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and completed executive and leadership programs at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in Evanston, IL, and the Center for Creative Leadership in St. Petersburg, FL. He and his spouse, Roxanne Carter-Wyatt, a speech and language therapist, have two sons: Dylan, 20, a medical student at the University of Missouri-Kansas City; and Sawyer, 17, a junior at St. Paul Lutheran High School in Corcordia, MO.
