Dog Day Getaway Hosting Open House at New Apple Valley Spot

The "doggy" daycare is hosting an evening for owners, but is welcoming guest with four legs already after its move from south of the metro.

After nine successful years, Farmington's "doggy daycare" has made its biggest move into a new 9,000-square-foot space at 14607 Felton Court, Suite 101, in Apple Valley.

The move represents a significant expansion for Dog Day Getaway, which had some big fans in the south metro.

The daycare and dog boarding business was bursting at the seams at its former, 6,400-square-foot space, owners Nicole Boe and Carey Griffith Edwards said.

"We’ve expanded down as far as we can go in the building," Boe said. "[With the new building,] we’ll be able to add to our capacity."

A grand opening of the new facility is now set. Owners (no pets, mind you) will be welcome from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12. There will be an Apple Valley Chamber of Commerce "after hours" and ribbon cutting ceremony program to highlight the event, which will also include tours of the building, prizes and give-aways.

Now that the move is complete, Boe and Griffith Edwards plan to add a number of features to the business, including larger indoor and outdoor play and relief areas, grooming and a self-wash station for dogs, plus classes and training sessions. The new business will also have noise mitigation measures in place, although Boe noted that they have never received a noise complaint from any of their current neighbors.

The expansion will also allow Dog Day Getaway to house as many 120 dogs at one time, Boe said. The business' current maximum is 80 pets.
