Police Arrest Alleged Shoplifter, Find Crack Cocaine Stash in Pocket

Amanda Joan Jones, 26, faces one felony, fifth-degree count of possession of a controlled substance and one misdemeanor count of theft.

The outlook went from bad to worse for an alleged shoplifter after Apple Valley police found crack cocaine in her pocket following her arrest.

Amanda Joan Jones, 26, faces one felony, fifth-degree count of possession of a controlled substance and one misdemeanor count of theft, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Dakota County Attorney's Office.

On May 26, police were called to an Apple Valley business on a report of a man and woman selecting and concealing items from the store in a cloth bag. Officers stopped Jones outside the store and handcuffed after she reached for her waistband and refused to follow officers' orders, the complaint said.

Police searched Jones, a St. Paul resident, and allegedly found a plastic baggie contained a white, rock-like substance in Jones' pocket. The substance later tested positive for crack cocaine. Police also recovered $484.79 of stolen merchandise from Jones, according to the complaint.
