Christian Cheerleaders

Thank you for posting. To some extent, I agree with you. A private employer is free to requireRead More behaviors of you. Employees can be barred from wearing "meat eaters are murderers" t-shirts while working the counter a Burger King. This is pretty obvious. If you are unhappy with the job requirements, get a different job. The situation is slightly different in a public school. The school is not a private institution, and has a duty to be "neutral" in some sense. It is absurd to presume that everything that any student does "represents the school". Certainly the principal making an announcement "represents the school", but a student stealing a hot dog at the game does not. One must draw a line. The school is often in the business of accommodating various divergent views. Liberals have demanded that schools host clubs and activities that the community may dislike. Schools indoctrinate by doing things like pass out condoms, as an official act. If this all "represents the school", I am all for eliminating anything questionable. All of it. Public schools should not be entangled in controversial issues. If on the other hand, schools have a duty to be "neutral", then the suppression of one type of expression seems more like tilt than principled policy. I believe that the desire to suppress these cheerleaders flows more from the desire to suppress the "establishment" (Christian) view, in a sort of ideological affirmative action way. This is not principle, but simple censorship of disfavored views. This goes to the heart of what a free society is. "Free exercise" should mean free exercise, not court-mandated selective suppression.

you do not seem to understand the settled law on this issue and i strongly recommend you educateRead More yourself before you share any more uninformed opinions and mislead your readers as to the facts of this topic. Grrrr

Please be more specific, both as to who "you" is, and what ideas you considerRead More "uninformed".

Turning Point, I couldn't have said it better myself. How long can we allow these governmentRead More buffoons to lie, cheat and steal? They would be in prison for the things they are doing if they were in the private sector. The craziest thing is that they have forgotten that they work for us, we are their employer and they continue to poop on us. Very sad, something must fix this.

Great post and excellent advice; important to remember in this day and age.

Hmm...Nice attempt at rewriting history, but I sure don't see many 'captains of industry' from theRead More banking and financial services worlds serving much hard time for the product shenanigans they proferred and which nearly destroyed the American and global economies in the process. Who were the real crooks and the bigger saps? Seems pretty obvious.

Some paragraph breaks in this article would be great. I stopped reading after the second lineRead More because it's too hard to read. I bet there's some good information here that people are checking out of reading due to the layout. :)

Regardless of whether or not they're the same person, I think if that's the biggest challengeRead More they've ever faced in life they've pretty much cruised through life. I mean, seriously, your biggest challenge is not understanding that not everyone agrees with your opinions? I would think it's a given that everyone has a right to their own opinions without feeling overwhelmed and challenged by that fact.
Mike K. May 10, 2013 at 11:35 am
Mike B. and myself are not the same person, even though we do seem to think alike on most issuesRead More discussed here. Freedom of speech and thought are good things, and sometimes can be provocative. We should all exercise these rights while we still have them. BTW, I have not "cruised" through life unscathed. Nobody has.

The question in this article is "What's the biggest challenge you've had to overcome? You'reRead More all jumping in with political comments that really, as you just admitted are NOT the biggest challlenge you have overcome. You just wanted to turn this into a "Let's bash everyone who doesn't share our belief system". Nobody really cares about your political views. Answer the question honestly or stay out of the discussion. Truly, the first person who answered that the biggest obstical he has had to overcome was realizing that everyone has a right to their own opinion and this frustrates him, he's led a VERY sheltered life. If he's frustrated about the politics in this country he could a) move to another country or b) get involved in politics iin a constructive way to bring about the changes he wants or c) shut his yap because nobody really cares that he is tantruming about not getting everyone to step in line behiind him.
