Rosemount Lion’s Club Adds Golden Opportunities to Spring Egg Hunt

New fun added to 21-year-old annual event this Saturday

Never mind our haphazard weather conditions – this is a sign that spring is truly in the air: The Rosemount Lion’s Club Spring Egg Hunt will be held at 10 a.m. this Saturday, April 16 at the Ames Soccer Complex at .

The annual springtime event, offered by the Rosemount Parks and Recreation Department, has literally brought baskets full of excitement and fun to children for the past 21 years. This has been possible with local help and support.

“Over the many years, we have had many different sponsors,” said Lisa Maurer, City of Rosemount Recreation Supervisor. “However, the Rosemount Lion’s Club has sponsored the event for the past five years.”

This festive event is free. However, donations will be collected for 360 Communities and the Rosemount Family Resource Center – non-perishable food, paper products, toiletries and infant items, in particular – to help the numerous local families and individuals these organizations serve.

Children partaking in the hunt must be accompanied by adults – and a basket or bag to hold their treats. According to Maurer, they will be divided into three groups on separate soccer fields, according to age: 1-3, 4-6 and 7-10. Then, “they will line up around the soccer field and wait for the sound of the air horn to begin collecting the goodies spread across the fields,” she described. “New [to the event] this year is a limited amount of ‘gold’ eggs on the fields. Find the gold egg, and bring it to staff near the bunny for a special prize.”

And when the hunt is finished, she said, families will have a chance to take pictures with that bunny – “so bring cameras!”

Whether it’s because of the popular bunny or the fields filled with colorful treats – some as good as gold, this time – the event tends to enjoy a consistently large turnout.

“We have had well over 2,000 people attend this event each year in the past,” said Maurer.

So don’t be late. In fact, participants are advised to arrive early, as the hunt will begin promptly at 10 a.m.

In case of poor weather, the Spring Egg Hunt will be rescheduled to the following Saturday, April 23.  To find out if it has been postponed, participants are asked to contact the Information Line the morning of the event at (952) 985-1780, and select option #6 for event cancellations and event make-up information.
