Snow Forecast: Six Inches for Apple Valley-Rosemount; Winter Storm Watch Issued

The National Weather Service forecasts that as many as six inches of snow could fall this weekend.

 

Winter is coming. Apple Valley, Rosemount and most of the Twin Cities could see nearly half a foot of snow by Sunday night.

As a result, the National Weather Service in Chanhassen has issued a winter storm watch, in effect from Saturday evening to Sunday afternoon.

Weather service forecasters say as many as six inches of snow could fall on Saturday and Sunday. Windy conditions may lead to blowing and drifting snow and "near-blizzard" conditions in open areas, according to the NWS.

Forecasters are also calling for one to three inches of snow accumulation Friday afternoon and evening.

The snow expected this weekend will be followed by a cold air system, according to the weather service. Wind chills of 15 to 20 degrees below zero are likely across much of central and western Minnesota on Sunday night and Monday.
