5 Things Rosemount Residents Should Know: Meet an Author or Get Scared to Death

Some things to know today, Oct. 20.

  1. There's no snow in today’s forecast. Instead, the National Weather Service is predicting mostly sunny skies, with a high near 49, and north-northwest winds from 7 to 13 mph. Tonight’s low will hit 30, with mostly clear skies and northwest winds between 3 and 7 mph. Maybe it’s not quite winter yet.
  2. But as long as we’re talking about snow: Have you heard that the ? Council members voted unanimously this week to approve a plan in which snow will be pushed to the center of a cul-de-sac rather than up on the boulevard, which has been done in previous years.
  3. A for “Unforgettable” by Loretta Ellsworth begins at 7 p.m. at the Heritage Library in Lakeville. Kirkus Reviews placed the young adult novel on its September list of New and Notable Books for Teens. Ellsworth will read from the novel and sign books.
  4. With the kids out of school today and tomorrow, Frightmares at Buck Hill in Burnsville is offering additional days to get scared out of your wits. The attraction opens at 7 p.m., and anyone with a high school or college picture ID gets $2 off the $20 admission fee.
  5. On this date in 1818, the northern boundary of the United States was set at the 49th parallel of latitude, extending from Lake of the Woods to the Rocky Mountains. And on this date in 1937, the brothel of St. Paul’s most famous madam, Nina Clifford, was demolished after 50 years of business at 147 Washington St.
