Five Things You Should Know Today: July 25

It'll be a picture-perfect start to the week – more nice weather for Leprechaun Days.

  1. What a difference a week makes: The National Weather Service is predicting a high of 84 today, with sunny skies and calm winds, becoming southwesterly between 5 and 8 mph. And a clear night is in store, too, with a low around 67.
  2. The Rosemount Parks and Recreation Commission will meet at 7 tonight in Rosemount City Hall. On the agenda: the UMore ball fields, a preliminary plat for the Marshes of Bloomfield and a discussion of amenities.
  3. Today’s Leprechaun Days events include something for everyone: a youth dance for kids 12 and younger from 5 to 7 p.m. at the American Legion, a sidewalk chalk contest from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rapp Chiropractic for kids 2 through 16 (pre-registration required), performances by the Medalist Band and the 34th Infantry Division (Red Bulls) Band from 7 to 9 p.m. in Central Park, and an Irish story time for children 6 and younger at the Robert Trail Library from 7to 7:30 p.m. For a complete schedule of Leprechaun Days events, click here.
  4. Craving fresh sweet corn? Head for the parking lot at Shenanigan’s Pub and buy it fresh off of Fred Siewert’s pickup truck. Siewert, who lives in Mazeppa, will sell corn grown in southern Minnesota, along with potatoes, onion and tomatoes, every day for the next few months. Get it while you can.
  5. And on this day in 1965, Minnesota’s own Bob Dylan was booed off the stage at the Newport Folk Festival for using an electric guitar. The horror!
