Five Things You Should Know Today: September 2

There's a good chance of rain this morning, but the sky should clear up nicely this afternoon.

  1. The National Weather Service says showers and thunderstorms are likely before 1 p.m. today. Skies will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 76 and northwest winds between 7 and 14 mph. It will stay partly cloudy tonight, with a low around 58 and winds becoming calm.
  2. Today is Minnesota Public Radio Day at the Minnesota State Fair, so three guesses what tonight’s grandstand show is. In what’s become a cherished state fair tradition, Garrison Keillor will present “A Prairie Home Companion” at 7:45 p.m. Tickets are available at the grandstand box office or through Ticketmaster.
  3. You have only another week or so to get to “Underwear: A Brief History,” an exhibit at the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul. The exhibit, which includes examples of underwear from the 1920s to the 1970s, closes Sept. 11, and focuses on Munsingwear Inc., a Minnesota company. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 through 17; Minnesota Historical Society members get discounted rates.
  4. Did you know that the city of Rosemount has added 94 new bicycle parking spaces around town? Nine new bike racks are in use in five locations: the American Legion, the Church of St. Joseph and its school, the Community of Hope Church, First Baptist Church and School and the Robert Trail library.
  5. I’m very sorry to have to tell you that today is National Beheading Day. Please don’t blame (or behead) the messenger.
