UPDATE WEDNESDAY: Power Restored to All Dakota Electric Customers After Initial 10K Outages

Crews worked Tuesday to restore electricity in the wake of early-morning Tuesday storms.

UPDATE 9 a.m. Wednesday: Power was restored to all Dakota Electric Customers as of 11:40 p.m. Tuesday.

UPDATE 2:25 p.m. Tuesday: About 500 Dakota Electric Association customers remain without power, but almost all should have power restored on Tuesday.

Customers who are still out of power should call Dakota Electric’s outage line again at 651-463-6201, even if they called earlier, to assure that Dakota Electric knows about their outage.

UPDATE 10:30 a.m. Tuesday: About 3,000 Dakota Electric Association customers remain without power, after more than 10,000 outages were reported in the wake of storms from early Tuesday morning.

The majority of the 3,000 should be restored by nightfall Tuesday, according to a press release, but it could take 24 to 48 hours to restore everyone. Crews are being called in from other cooperatives to assist.

Updates will be available on the Dakota Electric website, Facebook page and Twitter account.

Residents should stay away from downed power lines, and call the Dakota Electric outage line to report safety hazards or power outages: 651-463-6201.

8:30 a.m. Tuesday: Dakota Electric Association reported at about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday that about 9,800 customers were experiencing power outages from the severe storms that moved through the area overnight.

Crews are responding to the outages, which are widespread and scattered across the service area, according to a press release. The number of outages could increase as people continue to report them, the release says.
