Apple Valley Homebuilder Boosted by Local Building Boom

After a slow winter and spring, homebuilding is taking off like a rocket.

After a long winter and difficult spring that kept construction slow, Gene's Apple Valley Construction is back into the saddle.

According to The Sun This Week, the homebuilder is benefiting from a state-wide building boom that made up fully one eighth of the new Minnesota jobs created in May.

Dakota county, in particular, is a construction hotspot, the paper reports.

Despite all the new work, many construction companies are also suffering a labor shortage. Many construction workers who were laid off after the 2008 crash have not returned to the industry.
