Greenleaf Tobacco Rounds Out its First Month in Business

, a new local business, has been bringing a wide range of tobacco products to Rosemount since Dec. 1.

The shop carries all the typical fare, such as cigars, cigarettes, pipe and cigarette tobacco, lighters, cutters and wooden pipes. However, they also stock a few less tradition products, including incense, hookah tobacco and e-cigarettes.

Owner Mohammad Mirib boasts that the store carries Galleria pipe tobacco, a rare brand, as well as over 500 different types of cigars.

“Everybody likes the cigars,” said Mirib, although he also stated that cigarettes are the most sought after product, especially Marlboros and Camels.

“I’m a strong believer that it’s a free market,” said Mayor Bill Droste, when asked how he felt about the addition of a tobacco shop to the local economy.

Droste, a non-smoker, paid a visit to Greenleaf Tobacco earlier in the month to introduce himself to Mirib.

However, the mayor also voiced his apprehension regarding the store’s merchandise.

“You always have a concern when it’s things like alcohol or tobacco,” said Droste. “It’s disconcerting when you have business owners that fail to card.”

Mirib stated that he has enjoyed success with the high traffic location and that customers appreciate the opportunity to buy cigars in-store, rather than online.

Mirib, who worked in tobacco shops for two years prior to opening Greenleaf Tobacco, stated that the shop is independently owned and is not associated with a franchise.
