Proto Labs to Bring Business, Hundreds of Jobs to Rosemount

A company based out of Maple Plain plans to move to Rosemount within three years

Proto Labs, Inc.—a company based out of Maple Plain—is planning to move to Rosemount within the next three years and bring with it about 300 job opportunities.

Proto Labs started talking with city officials about expanding its plastic parts-making business into Rosemount about two months ago, said in an article by Thisweek Newspaper.

"[Lindquist] said the company selected the Rosemount Business Park site, in part, because it was looking for a location far enough from Maple Plain so it could draw upon a new employee base," Thisweek Newspaper reported.

Proto Labs will be occupying the former Webb Cos. building for $3.95 million. Webb built the building for $4.2 million in 2000, and is now located in Eagan with about 60 employees, according to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.

"The deal, and a string of other business investments headed to Rosemount this fall, signal the third-ring Twin Cities suburb is waking up from the recession," the Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal reported.

“After the last three to four years, any job, a single job is a good one,” said Mayor Bill Droste to the Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal. “But to have multiple projects in the city at the same time, I’m just thrilled.”

"In this economic downturn, this looks like a business that has been able to weather that and obviously expand during this time,” Lindquist said to Thisweek Newspaper. “We hope this spurs other interest in our business park.”
