Two New Rosemount Planning Commission Members Sworn In

City leaders anticipate continued development, especially at the UMore site.

The Rosemount Planning Commission grew by two members Tuesday night.

Bruno DiNella and Wade Miller were each appointed in early April by the Rosemount City Council to two-year terms on the commission. The action brings the commission’s membership from a total of five to seven.

City council members earlier changed an ordinance to allow the additional members in anticipation of continued growth and development in the city, particularly at the University of Minnesota Outreach, Research and Education (UMore) Park near Highway 52 and County Road 42.

The planning commission also unanimously elected a new chair and vice chair. John Powell was chosen as the panel’s new chair, replacing Valerie Ege, and Richard Kolodziejski was elected vice chair, replacing Kyle Irving.

  • Approved a request by U.S. Home Corp. to change the land use designation on a 27-acre section in Prestwick Place from medium-density residential to low-density residential. The company plans to build about 65 single-family homes. The area’s medium-density residential designation would have allowed about seven units per acre; the new designation will allow about two and a half units per acre.
  • Approved a request by Frana & Sons to build an 8,070-square-foot addition to the existing Frana Wall building at 2785 160th St. W.
  • Approved a request from TNT Fireworks to operate a temporary fireworks sales tent in the Cub Foods parking lot at 3784 150th St. W. The sales tent will operate for 19 days, including three days for setup and three days for breakdown, from June 20 through July 8.
  • Approved a request by SKB Environmental Inc. for a mineral extraction permit at properties at 4992 145th St. E. The approval will allow SKB Environmental to mine down to an 840-foot elevation and backfill with material from construction projects of its sister company, Carl Bolander and Sons.
  • Approved a request by Valley Paving Inc. for an interim-use permit to operate an asphalt plant at 12955 Courthouse Blvd. through Dec. 31.
  • Approved a request by McDonald’s to rebuild the existing restaurant at 15035 Canada Ave. The new restaurant will have dual drive-through lanes and a new atrium on the north side of the building. The restaurant has been in that location since 1981.
  • Voted to recommend that the Rosemount City Council deny an amendment to the city’s home occupation ordinance that would prohibit tattoo parlors in individual residences. The proposed amendment will still go to the full city council for approval or denial.
  • Heard an update on the rezoning plan at Dakota County Technical College for construction of an outdoor baseball complex.

The next Rosemount Planning Commission meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. May 10.
