Rosemount Residents Won Numerous State Fair Awards

From honey to horses, plenty of talented Rosemount competitors won accolades for their various hobbies and passions at this year's Minnesota State Fair.

Amy Jo Burckhard competed in Honey and Bee Culture and placed fourth in the premium themed gift basket division in Quality Honey & Bees.

Debra Marthaler competed in Fruit and Wine and placed first in Beacon Apple – Fruit Specimens. She also placed second in Haralson Apple – Fruit Specimens, as well as second in Concord Grapes – Fruit Specimens.

Patricia Roberts competed in Creative Activities – Baked Products and placed first in rye bread, yeast breads, plain dough. She also placed third in not otherwise specified bread, yeast breads, plain dough, as well as third in scones, quick breads, and also third in oatmeal cookies with no fruit, nuts, chips or icing in the cookies division.

Lorrayne Ingram competed in Creative Activities – Canning and placed fourth in red raspberry jam among jams.

Charles Parrish competed in Creative Activities – Collections and won 10 awards this year:

- First place in first day covers, U.S. or foreign collections, stamps
- First place in U.S. covers, not first day collections, stamps
- Third place in labels; Christmas, charity, etc. collections, stamps
- Second in mixed era collections, post cards
- Second in artist signed or greeting collections, post cards
- First in Minnesota post cards collections, post cards

- First in Twin City Post Card Club (sweepstakes winner) Collections, post cards

Madeline Riphenburg of Shannon Park Elementary competed in Education – Individual Exhibits, K-3 and tied for second in Sculpture, Individual Exhibits, Grade 2

Abbie Ostrum of Glacier Hills Elementary competed in Education – Individual Exhibits, K-3 and placed second in Sculpture, Individual Exhibits, Grade 3.

Alyssa Riphenburg of Shannon Park Elementary competed in Education – Individual Exhibits, Grades 4-6 and placed second in Original Stories, Individual Exhibits, Grade 4.

Amy Nicolai competed in Poultry – Chickens and won first in Leghorn, single comb, white, pullet. She placed second and third in Cochin, buff, cockerel. She also competed in Pigeons and won first place in Fancy, Valencian Figurita, adult cock; first place in Fancy, Valencian Figurita, adult hen; second place in Fancy, Valencian Figurita, young cock; and third and fourth places in Fancy, Valencian Figurita, young hen.

Mandy Marthaler Randolph competed in FFA Beef Cattle and placed second in the Charolais Junior Yearling Heifer, Jan-Feb 2010 division. She also competed in the FFA Beef Cattle with Animal Information division and placed second in FFA Charolais Junior Yearling Heifer, Jan-Feb 2010 with JAB She's on Fire.

Dan Fox Randolph competed in FFA Beef Cattle and placed first in Commercial Beef Junior Yearling Heifer, Jan-March 2010, as well as first in Commercial Beef Grand Champion Female & Reserve and first in Beef Supreme Champion Breeding Female.

He also competed in FFA Beef Cattle with Animal Information and placed first in FFA Commercial Beef Junior Yearling Heifer, Jan-March 2010 with AJE Miss Violet 59X, as well as first in FFA Commercial Beef Grand Champion Female & Reserve with AJE Miss Violet 59X.

Amy Nicolai Randolph competed in FFA Sheep and placed seventh in Class 1 FFA Market Lamb, Wether or Ewe, White Faced. She also placed sixth in Class 2 FFA Market Lamb, Wether or Ewe, Speckled Faced.


Megan McFarland competed in the English Horse competition on Aug. 24 and won eighth place with Beethoven in the .91m 3' Jumper. She also placed sixth with Beethoven in the 1. m 3' 3" Low Child/Adult Jumper, 2.2b. On Aug. 25, in the morning competition, she placed sixth with Beethoven in the 1. m 3' 3" Low Child/Adult Jumper, 2.2b. In the afternoon competition, she also placed sixth with Beethoven in the 1. m 3' 3" Low Child/Adult Jumper, 2.2b.


Mandy Marthaler competed in the English Horse competition on Aug. 28 in the morning and won third place with Highpoint's Margarita in the ASB Three-Gaited Country Pleasure Horse, 17 & under, English Equipment.

He placed third with Sieverts Marissa Nchanted Tinkerbel in 2728A AMHA Mature Mare, Over 28", up to and including 30" and third in 2728B AMHA Mature Mare, Over 28", up to and including 30".

He placed fourth with Sievert's S Enterprize Slim Pickens in 2734A AMHA Youth Gelding, any age. He placed third in 2734B AMHA Youth Gelding, any age. 

He placed fourth in 2735A AMHA Senior Gelding, Over 32", up to and including 34". He placed fifth in 2735B AMHA Senior Gelding, Over 32", up to and including 34". 

He placed first with Sieverts Bronco Painted Destiny in 2740A AMHA multi-color Stallions and Geldings (Pinto and Appaloosa only) and also first in 2740B AMHA multi-color Stallions and Geldings (Pinto and Appaloosa only). 

He placed third with Sieverts Marissa Nchanted Tinkerbel in 2743A AMHA solid color Mares (all other colors) and third in 2743B AMHA solid color Mares (all other colors).

He placed second with Sievert's S Enterprize Slim Pickens in 2745A AMHA Youth Showmanship at halter, ages 8 to 12 and second in 2745B AMHA Youth Showmanship at halter, ages 8 to 12.

He placed fourth with Sievert's S Enterprize Slim Pickens in 2748A AMHA Obstacle Halter, Youth. He placed fifth in 2748B AMHA Obstacle Halter, Youth.
