Senator Gerlach's Statement Doesn't Square Up

Senator Gerlach votes differently than he writes.

Senator Gerlach’s statement doesn’t square up!

I write this on Feb. 7, 2012. Yesterday Senator Gerlach posted a rebuttal about some legislation he is forwarding relative to ticket resales.

Embedded in his comments is this quote: “When people feel wronged they have a right to petition their government for redress of grievances.”

When I read this I considered his vote on the marriage amendment last spring. How is it that a minority group is being denied the opportunity for redress before the courts, which is the opportunity to contest the MN Defense of Marriage Act?

The net result if the marriage amendment passes is that a minority can't state their case before the courts.

My wife spoke privately with Gerlach on this issue last spring. To us his answer seemed hollow then and in contrast to the quote above it is apparent he doesn’t believe what he wrote yesterday, at least when he votes on other peoples rights.

Senator Gerlach’s statement doesn’t square up. It would best that however District 37 is redefined after redistricting that Mr. Gerlach is replaced. Put someone in who actually believes in the constitution...for everybody.

Jeff Wilfahrt, candidate for MN House seat 37B, in current district 37.
