UPDATE 9:30 a.m. Monday: Man Who Allegedly Pulled Handgun Dies of Injuries From Police Gunshot

The 48-year-old man was allegedly involved in a domestic dispute on Sunday evening in Apple Valley when he showed a handgun to police investigating the incident, then was shot by an officer.

UPDATE, 9:30 a.m. Monday: Regions Hospital reportedly confirmed to WCCO News on Monday morning that the man who allegedly pulled out a handgun during a police investigation Sunday in Apple Valley died due to injuries he had sustained after an officer shot him.

The hospital did not release the man's identity, according to the WCCO report, and nor have police at this time.

UPDATE, 5:30 a.m. Monday: At least two local media sources have reported that the man who allegedly pulled out a handgun during a police investigation Sunday in Apple Valley died after he was taken to the hospital.

Fox 9 News reported Sunday night that they had confirmed with doctors at Regions Hospital in St. Paul that the man had died.

KARE 11 News also reported later Sunday night that the man died, though the online story did not name a source.

Police did not release the man's name, address, condition or the nature of the shooting injury or injuries on Sunday, and a Regions spokesperson said Sunday night she could not release information on the man's condition without his name.

Apple Valley Acting Police Chief Jon Rechtzigel told the Star Tribune Sunday night that the man sustained life-threatening injuries, but wouldn't say where or how many times the man was shot.

9:21 p.m. Sunday: A man who allegedly showed a handgun during a police investigation was shot and injured by an a Apple Valley police officer Sunday.

At 5:42 p.m. Sunday, Apple Valley police were called to a residence in the 13900 block of Herald Court in Apple Valley on a report of a dispute, according to a press release from the .

The two officers who responded found a man and woman at the residence who were involved in a physical altercation with each other, the release says.

As the officers initially investigated, the 48-year-old man who was a subject of the investigation allegedly showed a handgun, the release says.

One officer fired a handgun and hit the man, according to the release. The man was taken to the Regions Hospital in St. Paul by ALF/Allina Paramedics.

No other people at the scene were injured.

Apple Valley police and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are working together on the investigation into the incident, according to the release.

The officer will be place on paid administrative leave at this point in the investigation, which is standard procedure, Apple Valley Police Capt. Mike Marben told Apple Valley Patch on Sunday night.
