An Apple Valley woman accused of beating her 2- and 3-year-old daughters with a belt and causing the younger child to suffer a brain injury was arrested Monday in Scott County.
Roff, arrested Monday, is charged with three felonies: malicious punishment of a child causing bodily harm, third-degree assault and child neglect. She is also charged with a gross misdemeanor count of child neglect.
Lewis is charged with five felonies: two counts of malicious punishment of a child causing bodily harm, two counts of third-degree assault and one count of child neglect. He is also charged with one gross misdemeanor count of malicious punishment of a child.
According to court documents, Roff and Lewis repeatedly beat the children with a belt, and Roff waited a week before taking the younger child to doctors after she suffered a skull fracture in June. The 2-year-old was diagnosed with a diffused brain injury and was left partially paralyzed and unable to see out of one eye.
Roff is scheduled to make a first appearance on the charges Oct. 2 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.
Lewis remains at large. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact authorities.
