UPDATE: Deaths of Man, Woman in Apple Valley Shooting Apparently Murder-Suicide

An Eagan man allegedly shot the Apple Valley woman with whom he had children, then shot himself outside South Cedar Knolls Apartments in Apple Valley, witnesses reported to police.

UPDATE 3:40 p.m. Saturday: The deaths of a 41-year-old man and woman who were shot in Apple Valley on Saturday morning apparently are the result of a murder-suicide, according to reports from WCCO and the Pioneer Press.

According to the Pioneer Press, witnesses reported seeing the man chasing and shooting at the woman in the South Cedar Knolls Apartments parking lot, and he apparently shot her, then shot himself.

The man and woman, whose identies had not been released at the time of this update, apparently had two children together, according to WCCO, though police said they didn't know whether they were married, divorced or otherwise.

The woman allegedly lived in the apartments.

The man was an Eagan resident, the Pioneer Press report says.

The children were placed in protective custody, according to WCCO.

11:47 a.m. Saturday: Two people were shot and killed outside an Apple Valley apartment building Saturday morning, according to a press release from the .

Police, , Apple Valley incident command and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension were on scene Saturday morning, where blue tarps surrounded an area of the parking lot in front of .

According to a press release, the victims are a 41-year-old woman who was a resident of the apartments, and a 41-year-old Dakota County man.

Police believe that there is no other threat to public safety, the release says.

According to the press release:

At approximately 8:37 a.m. Saturday, Apple Valley police were called to South Cedar Knolls Apartments on a report of multiple gun shots fired in the apartment parking lot.

Officers who responded initially found two nonresponsive people, each with gunshot wounds, lying in the parking lot. Officers and Allina Paramedics provided medical aid, but both parties died at the scene.

A weapon was found near the bodies.

The identity of the victims is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.

The investigation is ongoing. The bodies of both victims will be transported to the Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office in Hastings for examination, autopsy and identification.

Another person was shot and killed in Apple Valley in an officer-involved shooting at the end of April, when police were called to an apparent domestic dispute and one officer .
