This Sunday will be the fire department's annual open house

The Rosemount Fire Department looks forward to families visiting one fire station each year during Fire Prevention Week, which falls on Oct. 9-15 (this year).

will take place this Sunday, Oct. 16 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at fire station #1 on Shannon Parkway, according to Fire Chief Scott Aker.

There will be many events for the city to partake in, including auto extrication, North Air Care helicopter, air bag safety demo as well as meeting "Sparky" the fire dog and the city's firefighters.

"I have been to several past open houses and it’s a great event for children and grandchildren to attend with food, special rescue demonstrations and the helicopter landing," City Administrator Dwight Johnson said.

Aker said he hopes the department's new fire truck will be present during the open house.

"The truck is supposed to arrive on the 14th of this month for the public to see on the 16th," Aker said.

"Personally, I hope to get there [Sunday] to have my first look at the new fire truck that we purchased earlier this year," Johnson said.

The department is replacing a truck that the department received in 1986. They have 11 vehicles total (and that number will not change with the newest addition).

The mayor and council members may also be present at the event. According to Johnson, they have been to many of the open houses in the past, but at this time, he was unsure of who was going to attend.
