A St. Paul man has been charged with having sex and impregnating a 14-year-old Rosemount girl.
James Lee Whitner III, 19, is charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct, a felony with a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim’s foster parent contacted Rosemount police Aug. 16 and said the girl had left the house after an argument.
The parent said the argument stemmed from the girl having sex with an older man.
Police found the girl and Whitner, who admitted to having sex with the girl on Aug. 16 in Dakota County and Aug. 19 in Ramsey County, according to the complaint.
Whitner said he thought the girl was 17 when they met, but at some point between Aug. 16 and 19, he learned her real age, the complaint charges.
When police questioned the girl about her relationship with Whitner, she began to cry and said she was pregnant and concerned about her baby not “having a father,” according to the complaint.
No information was available about Whitner’s upcoming court appearances. He is free on bond.
