Video: Apple Valley Emergency Personnel Receive Life Saver Awards

Apple Valley firefighters, police and paramedics were honored at Thursday's city council meeting for helping when a resident went into cardiac arrest.

Eight firefighters, police officers and paramedics received Allina Life Saver awards at Thursday's Apple Valley City Council meeting for providing cardiac arrest care to an Apple Valley resident when they responded to a house fire on Feb. 4.

The homeowner, Farrell "Buzz" Graves, collapsed on the sidewalk outside as firefighters investigated a smoldering fire in his home, Apple Valley Fire Chief Nealon Thompson said.

Firefighters Trudy Hagert, Sam Seal and Nick Torrini, and fire Capt. David Kennedy began CPR on Graves, and police Sgt. Peter Matos and Marcus Smith assisted, Thompson said. Paramedics Katie Kuenzi and Albert Reiff gave advanced cardiac life support intervention, he said.
