Council Preview: New Crooked Pint Ale House, Embattled Spoon Restaurant Returns

The Apple Valley City Council will meet at 7 p.m. on March 28 at City Hall.

The Apple Valley City Council will meet at 7 p.m. on March 28 at City Hall. Below is a list of selected items expected to be discussed at the meeting. Click here for a complete agenda and packet.

  • City staff want to amend the 2013 Public Works Building Inspection Division budget to include an extra $31,800 because of an expected increase in the amount of building activity in 2013. The expenditure should be offset by building permit fee revenues, according to Finance Director Ron Hedburg. The council is expected to vote whether to approve the budget amendment on Thursday.
  • The Apple Valley council is expected to vote whether to apply for a $2,500 Community Partnership Grant through CenterPoint Energy. The grant money, if received, would likely be used to purchase 14 new firefighting helments for the Apple Valley Fire Department. The helments are priced at $265 each, plus a $90 LED light for each helmet. The grant would cover 50 percent of purchasing costs.
  • Apple Valley residents haven't seen the last of Spoon Fusion Cuisine, it seems. Despite repeated policing issues and numerous fire code infractions, the embattled business is back on the council agenda. The Apple Valley council will address the restaurant owners during public hearing on March 28. At the hearing, the council is expected to consider approval of no less than four separate liquor license applications for the restaurant, including on-sale licenses to serve intoxicating liquor, wine, 3.2 percent liquor and a special Sunday Liquor Sales license.
  • Once again, Bogart's in Apple Valley wants to operate a set of two outdoor volleyball courts for seasonal use. The business has applied for a conditional use permit that would allow the installation of the volleyball courts. The council is expected to vote on the permit on Thursday. The restaurant also wants to install an outdoor bar that would provide beer, soda and water. 350 tons of sand would be needed to fill the courts to the required depth.
  • Crooked Pint Ale House, a restaurant franchise with one location in downtown Minneapolis, in southwest Apple Valley. The Apple Valley council, for its part, is expected to vote on Thursday whether to approve a conditional use permit and site plan for the new restaurant.
  • After some of its guests received parking citations for leaving their vehicles parked on the street overnight, the Grandstay in Apple Valley is requesting an amendment to the city's overnight parking ordinances. Ordinarily, city rules dictate that no parking can occur on streets between the hours of 3 a.m. and 6 a.m., but in certain overflow situations, guests at the hotel have been parking on Gallivant Place during those hours.
