received a boost from Gov. Mark Dayton and the Senate Capital Investment Committee on Wednesday when they both supported inclusion of the school’s $7.23 million request for 2012 state bonding bill funding.

The House Capital Investment Committee did not include the DCTC request in their recommendations.

If approved in the final bill, the DCTC would use the funding to renovate 118,000 square feet of lab and shop space used by their transportation and emerging technology programs. According to the DCTC website, the project would have a direct impact on the school’s science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) initiatives as well as eliminate more than $3.5 million in deferred maintenance costs.

The Senate proposal included approximately $179 million in building projects for college campuses throughout the state. DCTC has not received state bonding funds since 2005. A floor vote for the Senate bonding bill is expected to come as early as Friday. The House is also expected to hold floor votes on their two bonding bills soon.
