Photos: Cedar Avenue Construction Continues in Apple Valley and Lakeville

Construction along the corridor, which is a county road, is scheduled to last through 2012.

As most Apple Valley residents have noticed, along Cedar Avenue from about County Road 42 all the way to Dodd Boulevard in Lakeville.

In addition to rush hour congestion, many local roads are being temporarily closed while crews lay new storm sewers and perform other work.

Coming up, 160th Street is scheduled to be closed just east of the intersection at Cedar Avenue from 10 p.m. on Friday until 5 a.m. on Saturday, weather permitting. Traffic will be detoured for this closure.

The signal systems at various intersections between Dodd Boulevard and County Road 42 may also be put on flashing red (all-way stop) for short periods of time while crews do their work.

About this Project
Bus rapid transit along Cedar Avenue involves roadway improvements and construction. These improvements will create bus-only shoulder lanes and change access to make travel safer for all.

Cedar Avenue construction will take place between 181st Street in Lakeville and 138th Street in Apple Valley. Work will also take place on portions of many of the side roads. Work will include widening Cedar Avenue to accommodate bus-only shoulder lanes, extending six-lane through traffic to south of County Road 46, adding additional turn lanes, building retaining and noise walls, updating public utilities (storm sewer, water main and sanitary sewer), relocating private utilities, upgrading signal systems and streetscaping.

Relocation of private utilities began on Sept. 7, 2010. The construction contract for all three segments was awarded in January 2011. The majority of construction in the middle and southern sections will occur in 2011. Construction of the northern section in Apple Valley is scheduled for 2012. Project completion will be in summer 2013.
