Rosemount News Sprouts: 04/09/2011

Yes, we do indeed have lots of news items.

Here at Rosemount Patch we try and cover it all. While sometimes this isn't always possible or some things can't be worked into a larger story in a timely manner, we want to make sure we pass along as much information we can. Rosemount News Sprouts is an attempt to do just that.

Here you will find news tidbits from all areas of the community. Let's get started:

  • Any Rosemount Middle School 8th grader interested in being a manager for the Rosemount High School Varsity boys soccer team next fall can email Coach Floersch at mike.floersch@district196.org.  They are looking for responsible people who can join the team on the varsity field, record stats, and help film the games, along with other responsibilities.  This is a position where you can earn a letter for your letter jacket. The season starts August 16.
  • The Rosemount Parks and Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for summer Recreation Leaders.  Applicants must be ages 16 or older, have great leadership skills and have an interest in instructing and working with children ages 3-12 (background check required).  Applicants must be able to work Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. and on Saturday, July 23 between June 13 – August 19.  $8.65/hour starting wage.   Applications are accepted until the position is filled. • The City Council filled several openings last week on its advisory commissions, some through reappointments and some with citizens new to the commissions.  The Council reappointed Maureen Bartz to the Parks and Recreation Commission, Richard Kolodziejski and John Powell to the Planning Commission, and Don Harmsen to the Utility Commission.

The Council also appointed to their first terms Joanne Cope on Parks and Recreation, and Robert Leuth, Carl Peterson, and Daniel Wolf to the Port Authority.  Peterson and Wolf will replace Council members Mark DeBettignies and Kim Shoe-Corrigan, who are stepping down from the Port Authority.

The Council on Tuesday changed City ordinances to expand the Planning Commission from five members to seven.  The new members are Bruno DiNella and Wade Miller.
  • Mayor Bill Droste presented commendations to two brothers, Adam and Timothy Kutz, for achieving Eagle Scout rank.  Adam worked on a project to landscape the entrance to Shannon Park Elementary, and Timothy cleaned debris from a pond at Red Pine Elementary.
