Rosemount Resident Announces Candidacy to Run For State Legislature

The constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage was a driving force in Jeff Wilfahrt's decision to run for the Legislature.

Jeff Wilfahrt of Rosemount announced today his intention to run for the Minnesota State Legislature in House District 37B.

Wilfahrt, a former 3M software engineer, is self-employed and lives in Rosemount with his wife Lori. Last year the Wilfahrts lost their eldest son Andrew to an IED while serving his country in Afghanistan. Andrew was openly gay. Wilfahrt said the decision of the Republican Majority to pass a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage was a driving force in his decision to run for the Legislature.

“It was very distressing to see the Legislature get consumed by this effort to put an anti marriage amendment in our state constitution,” said Wilfahrt. “I believe the Legislature has more important priorities to concern themselves with. There are significant challenges facing our community and state and I am running for the Legislature to focus on these bread and butter issues.”
